  1. I love the Google+ iPad app. Great animations and photo sharing. Very slick. I'm posting this on Facebook because no would actually see my comment on Google+.

  2. So, Sophie failed her hearing test in both ears three times now. She startles at loud sounds, so she's definitely hearing some things, but apparently not enough. Hopefully her ears are just clogged with vernix. We'll do another test a month from now. Of course I'll be obsessing about it until then.

    1. Plasmatic

      Plasmatic

My nephew had the same type of problem. He ended up getting tubes in his ears and that made all the difference.

  3. "Certainly I see the scientific view of the world as incompatible with religion, but that is not what is interesting about it. It is also incompatible with magic, but that also is not worth stressing. What is interesting about the scientific world view is that it is true, inspiring, remarkable and that it unites a whole lot of phenomena under a single heading." -Richard Dawkins

  4. "Food is the most widely abused anti-anxiety drug in America, and exercise is the most potent and underutilized antidepressant." - Bill Phillips

  5. I want to take this one moment to rant against the perverse morality of a society that considers photos of a mother feeding her child or the moment of birth to be "indecent." When things got serious, my wife threw off all her clothes and labored in the nude - great for her. But I can't share that event or the many photos that I will take of her feeding my child because it violates Facebook's Terms of Service. I don't blame Facebook - I blame a religion that considers human nature to be...

  6. "Mark my word, if and when these preachers get control of the [Republican] party, and they're sure trying to do so, it's going to be a terrible damn problem. Frankly, these people frighten me. Politics and governing demand compromise. But these Christians believe they are acting in the name of God, so they can't and won't compromise. I know, I've tried to deal with them." - Barry M. Goldwater

  7. On the way to the hospital!

  8. What a piece of work is man! how noble in reason! how infinite in faculty! in form and moving how express and admirable! in action how like an angel! in apprehension how like a god! the beauty of the world, the paragon of animals! - William Shakespeare - Hamlet, Act II

  9. "If, after the failure of such accusations as “Capitalism leads you to the poorhouse” and “Capitalism leads you to war,” the New Left is left with nothing better than: “Capitalism defiles the beauty of your countryside,” one may justifiably conclude that, as an intellectual power, the collectivist movement is through." - Ayn Rand "Return of the Primitive: The Anti-Industrial Revolution"

  10. "If you ask me to name the proudest distinction of Americans, I would choose—because it contains all the others—the fact that they were the people who created the phrase “to make money.” No other language or nation had ever used these words before; men had always thought of wealth as a static quantity—to be seized, begged, inherited, shared, looted or obtained as a favor. Americans were the first to understand that wealth has to be created." - Ayn Rand, "For the New Intellectual"

  11. "We should venture on the study of every kind of animal without distaste; for each and all will reveal to us something natural and something beautiful." - Aristotle, "Parts of Animals"

  12. "If the natural tendencies of mankind are so bad that it is not safe to permit people to be free, how is it that the tendencies of these organizers are always good? Do not the legislators and their appointed agents also belong to the human race? Or do they believe that they themselves are made of a finer clay than the rest of mankind?" - Frédéric Bastiat, The Law

  13. "All Nature seems at work. Slugs leave their lair — The bees are stirring — birds are on the wing — And Winter slumbering in the open air, Wears on his smiling face a dream of Spring! And I the while, the sole unbusy thing, Nor honey make, nor pair, nor build, nor sing." - Samuel Taylor Coleridge "Work Without Hope" (1825)

  14. Am I the only one who thinks that it's not a good thing to keep human beings in wheelchairs for the first few years of their lives?

  15. A free man must be able to endure it when his fellow men act and live otherwise than he considers proper. He must free himself from the habit, just as soon as something does not please him, of calling for the police. - Ludwig von Mises - Liberalism [1929]

  16. There are updates from Madonna in my Facebook newsfeed. What?!

  17. "Many American and British supporters of price control are fascinated by the alleged success of Nazi price control. They believe that the German experience has proved the practicability of price control within the framework of a system of market economy. You have only to be as energetic, impetuous, and brutal as the Nazis are, they think, and you will succeed. These men who want to fight Nazism by adopting its methods do not see that what the Nazis have achieved has been the building up of a...

  18. "As soon as government management begins it upsets the natural equilibrium of industrial relations, and each interference only requires further bureaucratic control until the end is the tyranny of the totalitarian state." - Adam Smith

  19. "We may test the hypothesis that the State is largely interested in protecting itself rather than its subjects by asking: Which category of crimes does the State pursue and punish most intensely — those against private citizens or those against itself?" - Murray Rothbard

  20. "Those fighting for free enterprise and free competition do not defend the interests of those rich today. They want a free hand left to unknown men who will be the entrepreneurs of tomorrow." -Ludwig von Mises

  21. It's snowing in Shanghai!

  22. The PC repair guy wanted $40 to replace the broken DVDRW drive in my MacBook. (I think it costs $200+ at an Apple store) I did it myself for $20. Let's see how well this works.

  23. "One repays a teacher badly if one always remains nothing but a pupil." ― Friedrich Nietzsche

  24. People are always blaming circumstances for what they are. I don't believe in circumstances. The people who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for the circumstances they want, and if they can't find them, make them. --George Bernard Shaw

  25. "There are only two hard things in Computer Science: cache invalidation and naming things." -- Phil Karlton
