  1. What, dying alone in the wilderness as a miserable failure? No, I can't disagree more.
  2. Excellent article here: http://www.theobjectivestandard.com/blog/index.php/2012/08/romney-ryan-2012ayn-rand-forever/ The only thing I would add to this: send them money!
  3. I don't know about you folks but I'm excited about Romney/Ryan. I just sent them another 50 bucks. https://www.mittromney.com/donate Paul Ryan on Ayn Rand: http://www.theatlant...ayn-rand/51711/ "I just want to speak to you a little bit about Ayn Rand and what she meant to me in my life and [in] the fight we’re engaged here in Congress. I grew up on Ayn Rand, that’s what I tell people." "I grew up reading Ayn Rand and it taught me quite a bit about who I am and what my value systems are, and what my beliefs are." "It’s inspired me so much that it’s required reading in my office for all my interns and my staff. We start with Atlas Shrugged. People tell me I need to start with The Fountainhead then go to Atlas Shrugged [laughter]. There’s a big debate about that. We go to Fountainhead, but then we move on, and we require Mises and Hayek as well." "But the reason I got involved in public service, by and large, if I had to credit one thinker, one person, it would be Ayn Rand." "And when you look at the twentieth-century experiment with collectivism—that Ayn Rand, more than anybody else, did such a good job of articulating the pitfalls of statism and collectivism—you can’t find another thinker or writer who did a better job of describing and laying out the moral case for capitalism than Ayn Rand." "It’s so important that we go back to our roots to look at Ayn Rand’s vision, her writings, to see what our girding, under-grounding [sic] principles are." "Because there is no better place to find the moral case for capitalism and individualism than through Ayn Rand’s writings and works." Ryan: "I think a lot of people would observe that we are right now living in an Ayn Rand novel, metaphorically speaking. ... Ayn Rand, more than anyone else, did a fantastic job of explaining the morality of capitalism, the morality of individualism."
  4. You will probably catch a lot of shit for this, but I just wanted to point out that there are many Objectivists who are fully on board with you here, myself included.
  5. For what it's worth, at our Objectivist conference in Atlanta (note: this is in the south) we had a whole panel of Objectivist homosexuals. There were a bunch of gay guys at our conference and nobody cared one way or another. There was never anything negative that came up, to my knowledge. People were just interested to hear about topics like if they had been bullied in their life or something. There were a couple of house party social events, at the first one I recall Diana Hsieh (a prominent Objectivist person) sitting in the basement with a bunch of the gay guys and few other straight people just hanging out. At the second party, there were a bunch of people sitting outside drinking and talking, and there were a couple of guys holding hands and stuff. It was no big deal. If anything, Objectivism is very friendly to homosexuals. Anyone against homosexuality is rare and way out of the mainstream as far as Objectivism is concerned. Oh, and as for "christian objectivists"... hell, if you are irrational enough to be a christian (or religious at all for that matter), then I don't see why claiming to be both christian AND objectivist is somehow MORE irrational. Anyways, Objectivists are very largely atheists, like 99% probably. Capitalists of all stripes, including religious capitalists, tend to be friendly to Objectivism despite that, which is actually a good thing. It goes without saying that the actual philosophy of Objectivism is strictly atheist for reasons that are very fundamental to the entire system of thought.
  6. I'm still looking for this if anybody has any ideas
  7. I've been calling for months and they've consistently said it will be 'months' - i.e. they are making no progress and nothing is going to change in the foreseeable future. I'm bumping this thread again, if anyone knows where I can find these lectures, please let me know!
  8. Hi, is there any chance he would be interested in lending them to me for a short time? I would be willing to pay! I really really want to get my hands on these lectures!
  9. I found the first movie to be extremely awful to the point of being offensive and insulting. They took what I consider to be one of the greatest works of art ever created, if not the greatest, and turned it to some mean little ripped off political piece, and a very poorly done one at that. This kind of book deserves the very best, but this was just a cheap little rip off done with complete disrespect to the book.
  10. I have not studied much cognitive science yet, so I'm curious to what parallels there are between cognitive science and Objectivism / Objectivist epistemology.
  11. Hi, anyone have any updates on this? I still cannot find the lectures, and the Ayn Rand Bookstore is going to continue stalling for months apparently. Please help!
  12. Has nobody else done what Peikoff was doing in OTI for other things? I know Tristan was talking about it but I don't think he's posted anything online.
  13. thanks. someone had just recommended this to me, it's exactly the kind of thing I'm looking for.
  14. Actually if anybody has applied the method of reduction to anything I'd be interested in seeing that.
  15. Has anyone fully applied the method of reduction to the the virtues (rationality, independence, integrity, honesty, justice, production, pride)? I would be interested in seeing that.
  16. Look up Miranda Barzey on Facebook or Twitter... she's an Objectivist starting a style consulting business.
  17. I'll pay 600 bucks for both volumes, plus shipping.
