Christopher Hitchens (who was recently diagnosed with esophageal cancer) examines the Ten Commandments, then offers up his own updated version of the decalogue for our times:

Would you shake Obama's hand in public?
Fenriz replied to Brian Gates's topic in Miscellaneous Topics
Yes, I would shake his hand only because I would want to show respect for the elected office he holds, not necessarily for the man himself. -
That's certainly an important point. There's a big difference between a desperate 20-something single mom who pole-dances to Motley Crue in some dive bar, and a woman with a background in theater and costume design who produces her own burlesque shows (i.e. like this gal here in Los Angeles).

A classic bit from Howard Stern's radio show back in 1996. An "old crow" calls in yells at Howard.

Mystery Science Theater 3000
Fenriz replied to Erik Christensen's topic in Movies, Shows, and Theatre
Escape 2000 (aka Escape from the Bronx) was a favorite of mine. I also liked The Incredible Melting Man episode. -
From Carl Sagan's Cosmos, a condensed history of "The Beginning." I particularly the music of Vangelis in this sequence:

The most interesting NON-POLITICAL news story for me over this past weekend was that James Randi, one of the leading proponents of the scientific skepticism, is in fact a gay man. He chose to come "out of the closet" this past weekend on his blog and on an internet radio show. Here's a link to his interview with the radio show "For Good Reason with D.J. Grothe": James Randi: A Skeptic Comes Out at 81

I just found this very cool news story about Choi Hyun-mi, a 19 year old North Korean defector who has found fame and fortune as a female boxing champion. Here's a YouTube video (interestingly from Al-Jazeera English) about her story: And here's a print story about her: Defector Conquers Women's Boxing for Family's Sake

Ayn Rand's loved and hated movie list
Fenriz replied to dollardoctrinaire's topic in Movies, Shows, and Theatre
I remember reading somewhere that Ayn Rand really liked the movie http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zsRnQQpklPM. -
Howard Stern making fun of an Intelligent Design video starring Kirk Cameron. Be warned, there's some salty language in this clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4eliACwBkBw
