To what end? For the most part, Ayn Rand does not suffer from an awareness gap in our culture -- she suffers from a credibility gap. Either people think she is too extreme, or her philosophy is simplistic, or integration is impossible... and so on. A stunt like this does nothing to ameliorate those problems, and like noumenalself pointed out, will likely make them worse. Imagine a news headline for something like this: "Scores of Ayn Rand devotees paid homage to her today by purchasing large quantities of her magnum opus, Atlas Shrugged, on what would have been her 103rd birthday" If you had never run across AR or Objectivism, is that image what you'd want your first exposure to be? I sympathize with the intent behind what you're proposing, but there are so many better ways to promote Objectivism in the culture. Write letters to the editor. Talk to your friends, neighbors and colleagues. Join or start a single issue activism group, like FIRM, FA/RM or CSG. Support ARI or the Anthem Foundation. Take an OAC class to better your knowledge of Objectivism. Volunteer with The Undercurrent and reach a college audience. And that's by no means an exhaustive list.

I wish I had run across more idiocy like this among Kelley's supporters during my early days discovering Objectivism. That way, I could have seen through their ridiculousness much quicker than I did.
