  1. After a previous thread referred to HIT via mentzers system I read his book. His primary goal was to compete in weightlifting competitions and grow in size. He wasn't very concerned about health and fitness, just physique (looks for competition) and muscle growth (size for competition). He sported the classic inverted triangle look. He geared his diet to allow him to remain lean enough to show his muscles for competition. Its true, if you use his system, it would be counterproductive to also pursue cardiovascular training say run 5 miles or do a spin class since his program requires excess amount of recovery time. Had he done some cardio exercise he may have prevented his predisposition to a heart attack.
  2. Heretic....many people refer to God as that which created light from dark and order from chaos. Some people also call this an "infinite intelligence". Imagine 14 Billion years ago...all those atoms, chemicals and matter and all of the universe and whatever existed is in exisitence has not collided or combined or reacted or created or come together in the matter we now refer to as the "big bang". That point where all the "random" became "organized" , that moment or process, if you want to refer to that or call that God, I agree with you...let's call that moment God. That God really would be life producing. That really would be the source of Man's creation.
  3. Your brother waited until he was 21 to drink !!!!...hahhahah .....will gladly send a card...good luck
  4. WHY isn't the world "pissed off" at the islamic world for their attacks in britain, us, spain etc, their beheadings on national t.v.. Their hatred of US IS equivalent to Nazi's hatred of the Jews. We should poison their water if they even have running water.
  5. I have this vision of people who look like the Crypt Keeper from "Tales from the Crypt" all walking around and in line at the bank and stuff is a little unsettling.
  6. Some tests were done as to the time of day/night you were born. Almost across the board this set a natural rhythm to tendency throughout your life. Caffeine and some jumping jacks might stimulate you baseball genius.
  7. I think AR Depicted women as fragile or slender to Highlight the fact that the Mind is whats most powerful. Dagny had such confidence and such a great mind that most men were intimidated by her even though she was smaller, slighter in stature. She certainly was small enough to be "raped" by most average men, however only a man of greater mind would be able to grasp her brillance and dare to take her physically.
  8. Thats a cute story and well written. As a person who has managed several offices I agree. Not only do you have to Not be reactionary towards co workers, you have to view each person as individuals with strengths and weaknesses. It is to YOUR best advantage to tailor your behavior and interaction to get your goals accomplished. I find the more Rational someone is the less finagling you have to do,ex; You are my boss so if you ask me to do something, its my job to do it, whether I'm in the mood to or not.
  9. “By consciousness I simply mean those subjective states of awareness or sentience that begin when one wakes in the morning and continue throughout the period that one is awake until one falls into a dreamless sleep, into a coma, or dies or is otherwise, as they say, unconscious. [This comes from Searle 1990; there is a much longer attempt along the same lines in his 1992, p. 83ff.]” I will argue that this sort of pointing is flawed because it points to too many things, too many different consciousnesses. So how should we point to P-consciousness? Well, one way is via rough synonyms. As I said, P-consciousness is experience. P-conscious properties are experiential properties. P-conscious states are experiential states; that is, a state is P-conscious just in case it has experiential properties. The totality of the experiential properties of a state are “what it is like" to have it. Moving from synonyms to examples, we have P-conscious states when we see, hear, smell, taste and have pains. P-conscious properties include the experiential properties of sensations, feelings and perceptions. I know animals don't wake up in the morning and say "I'm alive" but can they have an animal version of consciousness. Are all the arrows just pointing to instinct? http://www.nyu.edu/gsas/dept/philo/faculty...idged%20BBS.htm
  10. Volitional Science will also profoundly change the world. It will make it possible to design a social structure in accord with the laws of nature. Of all the things that make up this universe, only an infinitesimally small percentage, as far as we have observed, contains life’. Some forms of life, such as viruses and germs, appear to have no consciousness. Many forms of life have consciousness but no volition. A sunflower, for example, will follow the path of the sun by turning itself to face the sun. Certain types of cells will locomote themselves from darkness to nearby light. Such reaction requires a consciousness of the environment. However, neither those conscious cells nor the conscious sunflower can decide for itself, "Today I don’t feel like doing anything. I’ll just let the light or sun go by and I’m not going to move." To make a decision like that requires a much higher level of consciousness; it requires volition. [Note: By "Life" I mean a thing containing DNA and/or RNA. By "consciousness" I mean a thing containing DNA and/or RNA that demonstrates awareness of its environment.] Many animals have volition but none has as much rationality as man does. When a high degree of volition is coupled with a high degree of rationality, things like books, automobiles and antibiotics come into existence here is the site http://www.bridgetofreedom.com/Index.htm
  11. A great casual eatery is Benny's Burritos across from washington sq park on 9th st . Don't make eye contact with anyone when you cross the park though (smile) ( was also known as needle park) Also a great Organic Vegetarian place on 6th right off 2nd ave is Caravan of Dreams . You 'll meet many local people there. Both of these locations are in the East Village. The zoo at central Park is fun...enter 59th st by the plaza and stay right along the path. Empire state building especially if they still have the guiness world book of records exhibit there, if not pass. South street seaport bodies exhibit If you like books....New York public library is awesome. It's massive whatever you do DON"T go to the statue of Liberty...you have to walk up like 1,000,000,000,000,000 etc steps for a 2 sec viewing. Good Luck and Enjoy You can Double Park a moving van for the duration of the move, but not overnight.
  12. First let me say that I'm not saying it is a choice, but that it seems like a choice. Icicles falling would involve gravity and melting. My cat sits and eats every morning...except with food she doesn't seem to like. I don't just give the same brand so I would conclude that she surmises, decides, instincts, insert word, that its not favorable. If its a preference wouldn't that involve a choice of some sort. The cat would have to surmise that its not what is usually in the bowl, she would have to recognize it's different. If that "logic" can only be attributed to smell or pattern it still is a recognition of difference.
  13. Whole food has organic products that are grown without the use of chemicals and pesticides. Why do you need to be a "Hippie" to care about how your food is grown and what you eat? Oh and I don't want one penny of my tax dollars going to the space program even if they found Elvis on Mars. Let private funding foot the bill.
  14. I don't know if this is just a rumour but I was told a city in New Hampsire was trying to set up an independent city requiring a committment of 3 years from its inhabitants. I understood it was to resemble The canyon in AS. Tempting, eh. p.s. their state motto..."Live Free or Die" I worked in the medical field for 20 years and its disguisting what happens. Patients rather then get the services they need, get the services their insurance company will pay for. I left this field a few years ago and work independently as a waitress, mostly off the books, and do not pay income taxes. (except for property) My advice for the people in PA, Don't Get Sick !!
  15. I think this movie will have a happy ending.
  16. Jeff Kindler the Ceo of pfizer in his press conference said that ,"among other things the production and availablity of generic drugs played a factor in this closing."
  17. Ii don't push my cat away from the bowl. You are pushing the hammer.
  18. I know she makes a choice not to eat certain things because every morning I feed her and she eats, except for foods/brands she doesn't like ie; the kind without gravy. Do you think she is not hungry only on mornings i run out of wet food? Whats also interesting is when her brother gets locked in the closet, for example, she will come downstairs...meow to me and run up to the closet for me to open it. He may have been meowing and I didn't hear it. (yes, I am trained) Seriously, there is a form of understanding, (remy is trapped in the closet and crying) and communicating or knowing to find me. I don't know if this process is human like but there is some type of processing happening.
  19. volitin: an act of making a choice or decision ; also : a choice or decision made : the power of choosing or determining : WILL I think cats might. My cat chooses not to eat certain food and will resort to eating plants/grass first. I haven't tested it for more then a day or so though as I usually break down first and give her what she likes. Cats also sleep in closets and such having figured out , in their cat brain ability, that they can rest peacefully undisturbed there as opposed to the middle of the kitchen table. My cat also head butts me in the morning and tries to wake me up.
  20. Saying that you find a certain woman attractive enough to have sex with her will involve attributing some value to her on your part. Perhaps she is well groomed , with a good figure and attractive so you conclude she values taking care of herself and you appreciate that about her. What if during your conversation over drinks she mentions her charity work and how she thinks we should give more schlorships for Ivy league schools to those students who are poor, don't have the grades, but she feels sorry for them. Now what? And...what kind of woman has sex with a man knowing he just wants to relieve himself (other than a for hire situation) She values being a sponge. I could only have sex with a man I respect and admire. My boyfriend values everything about me, that I value about myself.
  21. I loved Fransisco and Hank. The equality, admiration and respect they have for each other. In the scene from AS when the boiler broke and Fransicio jumps in and helps him is one of my favorites. Of your choices above though, I picked Hank & Dagny.

    Hip Hop

I am not a fan of hip hop, but in it's defense it is very Honest music. Most hip hop artists are expressing their true pain, feelings, reactions, lifestyle etc. and not flowering themselves up to be tasteful to the publics opinion. If a person doesn't like the fact that some people are so angry they feel like shoving a gun down someones throat, but choose to express it through music, then don't listen. Some of the beats are good too.
  23. I'm curious as to what field your work is that so many drug addicts are attracted to it. As a manager of an office myself who does the hiring and firing, I am required to interview and use my judgement about a persons ability, character etc to decide whether or not to hire them. Perhaps he doesn't want to admit his inability to judge and see his mistake, so he gives them a chance. . Apparently he has made bad hiring decisions. A lot of drug addicts have manipulative personalities and he may have been fooled by them. Maybe he can only feel superior by contrast...ewwwww
  24. Yes, thats it, to a certain point. Roark had a purpose to his life and to himself. He was an architect. He defined himself by his own standards, philosophy, etc, despite what existed in the world. Dominique really had no purpose and had a waste of a life that lacked any honorable passion until she met Roark. What he ignited in her gave her a cause or a purpose in her life. Like reading Ayn Rands books probably did for a lot of us objectivists, defined what we knew inside of us but didn't have the words and definition for. In a way we all have some Dominque in us. Roark in the story, as does his character for those of us who read TFH, Shows how to be people like us in a world like that. Dominique was reactionary and emotionally spinning in a way when she recognized the injustice regarding achievement. Objectivists struggle too ya'know.
  25. I think the main difference is that Roark says he "only let's the pain go down so far".
