  1. Does anyone have any specific theories as to what will happen when the central planners' actions come to fruition in reality?
  2. What do you personally do for a living?
  3. Good point. But in the case of murder and theft, isn't it applicable?
  4. Like the case with Erin Brockovitch, for example. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erin_Brockovich
  5. When a corporation negligently pollutes, let's say a water supply, with a deadly or harmful chemical, what is it's responsibility to those affected?
  6. It's because to live you must produce. The looters prevented the able from producing so if nothing is produced, then everyone dies.
  7. The fact that the ship is called the enterprise shows that the writers didn't understand politics and history.
  8. What is evil about Ron Paul besides the selflessness? Is it his faith?
  9. If the government followed the constitution strictly, we would barely be complaining about anything. "They can regulate commerce and establish a post office and postal roads?!"
  10. A year ago, I could say with a straight face that I was voting for Ron Paul. My parents are borderline socialists so the switch to Objectivism was all the more difficult. Last summer my apolitical, but extremely literate friend suggested that I read Atlas Shrugged, and it is still the best work of fiction that I have ever read. I learned the most from that book about philosophy than any before it. I went on to read CUI, rereading Anthem (I had read it in public school and had not understood it) and TF. Reading further into the collection seemed like a waste, because after a while, it got repetitive. Besides, I can win an argument with most rational people just by using the Socratic method as Rand and other objectivists did in their non-fiction works.
  11. If someone intends to take your property by force, and acts, what is the reasonable amount of force that you can use against him?

    Piracy

I saw a special on pirates on the history channel. It was ridiculous the way they spoke of retaliatory force. It showed a crew member grab a pistol and run out to kill the pirates armed with AK-47s and RPGs like that was unfair! It comes down to the question: Is it immoral to defend you're property from force?

    Piracy

What do you think about using letters of marque and reprisal to stop piracy?
  14. I haven't read anything about how deflation soon turns to hyperinflation (after an excessive increase in the money supply), so how exactly does it happen?
  15. Should we have embargoes on statist countries like Cuba, China, and/or Iran?
  16. My friend gave me a copy of Atlas and I gave it to my other friend when I was done. I also read CUI, PWNI, and the Fountainhead since then.
  17. As many of us have seen almost everyone rationalizes what they don't understand, especially with philosophy. Other aspects of their lives are extremely rational. For example Andrew Carnegie and John Rockefeller were the richest men ever and acquired this wealth through intelligence and hard work i.e. acting rationally, but both men believed in god and thought that they had a debt to pay to their fellow man.
  18. Obama wants to deny the use of recycled brass to make ammo. We all know the implications. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2207686/posts

    self-styling

When people ask me what I am politically, I am used to saying libertarian, because the time it would take to explain objectivism would be enough to get a license renewed at the DMV. So to quasi-socialists looking for a brief argument, what should I say I am?
  20. The movie Duplicity is coming out soon. Many popular movies have the same sort of theme. Examples: Matchstick men, Catch me if you can, Ocean's 11-13. Why is stealing so appealing to American audiences?
  21. Do you think that this song has an intentionally philosophical meaning? http://www.sing365.com/music/lyric.nsf/Kni...8257182000E3622
  22. So are all taxes in an objectivist society voluntary i.e. based on consumption?
  23. Is depression a disease? I've spoken to people who claim this, but I find that it may just be another way to avoid why they are.
  24. How does a pragmatist view reality and the scope of knowledge?
  25. I bet you could ask almost any hard-working man or women and they would side with the doctor, yet our country is descending into collectivism. What's wrong with this picture?
