This is not a hypothetical. Your cells are constantly being replaced. Most within just a few days, some last several years, but physically none of who you are today existed 10 years ago. This leads me to believe that the self is not a physical entity, although memory is. If there is a self outside the physical and it existed before and/or will exist after this life, I don't know that you'd have any memory of any previous existance as you will have left the vehicle that contained the memory storage. To make it a bit trippier, you could travel from one body to the next and have no memory of the previous body. You also would have no reason to believe that you haven't been in the current body for its whole life since the only memories you can now access are those within that body. For all you know you could have arrived in your current body five minutes ago.

Maybe I can draw you back in. I've turned physics inside out by applying objectivist reasoning to common observation at www.dynamictensegrity.com. We've been looking at things backwards. The aether component of an aether/matter system is by far the more massive. As such, it is the driver, the matter is just along for the ride. This is one of two fundamentals you have to understand to accept the Dynamic Tensegrity model. The other is that there is no such thing as "empty space". If there were truly nothing between two objects, they would be adjacent by definition. There's a new sherriff in town, Dynamic Tensegrity. If you find it has merit, pass it on.
