Queen - Who wants to live forever

Theres no time for us

Theres no place for us

What is this thing that builds our dreams yet slips away

From us

Who wants to live forever

Who wants to live forever....?

Theres no chance for us

Its all decided for us

This world has only one sweet moment set aside for us

Who wants to live forever

Who wants to live forever?

Who dares to love forever?

When love must die

But touch my tears with your lips

Touch my world with your fingertips

And we can have forever

And we can love forever

Forever is our today

Who wants to live forever

Who wants to live forever?

Forever is our today

Who waits forever anyway?

I also like Whitney Houston's One Moment in Time. To me, it is a tribute to individualism:

I want one moment in time

When I'm more than I thought I could be

When all of my dreams are a heartbeat away

And the answers are all up to me

Give me one moment in time

When I'm racing with destiny

Then in that one moment of time

I will feel

I will feel eternity

I have had many anthems (their moral value sticks, but I find newer songs that strike me just as much morally). My biggest anthemsong would probably be Take the Time by Dreamtheater:

The unbroken spirit

Obscured and disquiet

Finds clearness this trial

demands

And at the end of this day sighs

an anxious relief

For the fortune lies still in his

hands

If there's pensive fear, a

wasted year

A man must learn to cope

If his obsession's real,

Suppression that he feels must

turn to hope.

For overall effect, I would choose Take On Me by A-Ha:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-P_TV-gierM

The lyrics are nothing special, but the combination of the song and the video project an excellent sense of life.

On the basis of lyrics, I would go with Thunderball (the James Bond Theme), especially the first verse:

http://www.lyricsfreak.com/t/tom+jones/thu...l_20138376.html

I ADORE A-Ha! That is a great song - the video was quite a break through for its time as well.

I would have to say - the closest to an Anthem for me would be: "Bitch" by Meredith Brooks. =)

I also like "Don't You Forget About Me" by Simple Minds - but I am saving that for my funeral.

"Revolution Deathsquad" by Dragonforce

Flying over darkened skies the battle will call

Distant angels crying in the eye of the storm

And the world falls under the starlight shining from heavens below

Long years of pain and sorrow searching for more

Cry for the touch of angels never before

And the stars fall on the horizon onwards and up through the pain

Ride the wind and fight the demon steel shining bright

Standing together forever onwards flames burning strong

Hot wind in Hell of pain and sorrow now and ever onwards

We stare into the dawn of a new world

Cry out for the fallen heroes lost in time ago

In our minds they still belong

when the sands of time are gone

Rise over shadowed mountains blazing with power

Crossing valleys endless tears in unity we stand

Far and wide across the land the victory is ours

On towards the gates of reason

Fight for the truth and the freedom

Gloria

Searching through the memories to open the door

Living on the edge of life like never before

And the ground chants under the moonlight facing their fears all the same

Heaven's fear now open wide and up for the call

All in stark reality the angels will fall

And the world cries out for the silence lost in the voices alone

Blinded by the force of evil cries into the night

Never before have they seen the darkness now they're all gone

Out from the shadows storming on the wings of revelations

Your soul will feel no mercy come the dawn

Hold on for the morning after

Never to let go

In the fires burning strong

When the tides of time roll on

Rise over shadowed mountains blazing with power

Crossing valleys endless tears in unity we stand

Far and wide across the land the victory is ours

On towards the gates of reason

Fight for the truth and the freedom

Gloria

Solos: Herman/Twin/Sam/Herman/Twin/Twin/Blast/Herman/Sam/Herman/Sam [basically, really really long awesome solos]

Cry out for the fallen heroes lost in time ago

In our mind they still belong when the sands of time are gone

Rise over shadow mountains blazing with power

Crossing valleys endless tears in unity we stand

Far and wide across the land the victory is ours

On towards the gates of reason

Fight for the truth and the freedom

Gloria

Focus:

I gladly cop to the so-called sin of pride

I put it all on number one and I let it ride

because I know that my philosophy is bona fide

And I never give an inch to the opposite side

friends and foes feel my flows

from nose to toes in the city of no dozin

closin in on a cure for the

moral twerpitude

I don't wanna have to hurt you dude

but if you step to this

I will do you like Brutus

not cuz you're ambitious

cuz your aim is malicious

meretricious bitches

try to grab my riches

but I ain't trying to waste my energy

on new and different ways to slay my enemies

never shrink from my responsibility

never blink in the face of adversity

from Marseilles to Bombay

I waylay the PKs

undermine the spineless

with sublime rhymes and basslines

And I always focus on the positive

recognizing that the best revenge is to live

haters obfuscate, instigate, complicate

lust for the power to control your fate

but we don't sweat them

we gonna forget them

we gonna let them set their own death

lay them to rest

cuz they've already confessed implicitly

that they're guilty of the worst hypocrisy

complicit in the worst atrocities

precipitated by depraved philosophies

advocating the rejection of the rational

in favor of the blatantly fantastical

now they try to put obstacles up in my path

try to pull the plug on my bubble bath

party poopers and storm troopers ain't even a threat

naked lady mudflaps is all you're gonna get

[chorus]

now I'm talkin bout myself and I know why you're hatin

some serious wealth is what I'm creatin

psychological health is what I'm demonstratin

take it somewhere else if your aim is instigatin

I ain't cuban, puerto rican, haitian or jamaican

my ethnicity officially is "straight money-makin"

I take down statists with a well-placed brickbat

expose their long noses and two-faced kickbacks

gettin sharp cheddar like I'm from wisconsin

takin out these thugs like I'm charles bronson

no guns but I'm causing mass casualties

pummeling the parasites perpetually

intelligence cuz my logic is aristotalean

eloquence cuz my rhymes are sesquipedalian

I got the technique and the culinary know-how

spicy -I'll burn your tongue like some kung pao

Mr. Scott blowin spots cuz I gotz da stugots

buckshot on these flocks talking poc trellat

I rock the bomba clots, outfox the despots

Scotch their rotten plots and mock their mental schlock

from concretes to concepts and all the way back

from the simplest perceptions to the most abstract

it ain't worth smack if it ain't about facts

so the faculty of reason is what they attack

And I always focus on the positive

recognizing that the best revenge is to live

haters obfuscate, instigate, complicate

lust for the power to control your fate

Exaltron - I love it! Absolutely fantastic! Is it your own work?

Thanks, that means a lot, sincerely. That is actually a song from a CD I completed in '05, a hip-hop album. Since then I've moved my aesthetic focus towards more melodic stuff and I'm working on my singing technique. I think the current stuff is a better projection of my sense of life, but lyrically I think this one makes a better theme song

I've been meaning to put something up about the CD, seems to do pretty well as a christmas gift. You can get the CD here or download it on itunes

I'll get it on iTunes ASAP!

(As soon as possible might be a little bit longer then the abbreviation implies, but I'll get it eventually)

Cool, I'll probably make another plug soon, so don't worry if it slips your mind

BTW where are you in Maine? I was in the Damariscotta area over the summer. Nice place.

I'm in Falmouth. It's about 10 miles north of Portland, just off exit 52 or exit 53. Maine is a very nice place. I've been here about a year and a half, and I really like it. Nice country. I prefer crowded cities and imposing skyscrapers, but scenic country isn't bad.

Not to get too off topic, I love the theme from the Firefly show. It's not what I would call my personal anthem (well, maybe, I still haven't decided), but it's fantastic. It's called "Ballad of Serenity":

For me, it would have to be the Song Of The Sword from the Zarzuela The Guest Of The Sevillian.

Staunch and triumphant sword

that now shines in my hand!

other men and other fighters

Have known your glory;

I venerate the nobility

of your Toledan steel

Stoutly tempered

in the waters of the Tagus.

Shine, sword of fine steel,

just like a clear moonbeam!

Shine, sword!

for by your light I want

to find the path to my fortune!

Become in conflict like lightning

that neither yields nor forgives,

wound as long as you have

justice and reason beside you.

Shine, sword!

for by your light I want

to find the path

to my fortune!

Specially sung by the god of lyric tenors, Alfredo Kraus:

This is actually a really hard one for me. There's several songs that I've heard that I've loved, but I tried to narrow it down to two.

I've always had a love for the Ode To Joy, and it wasn't until recently that I've really started to figure out why. I don't know how it is for other people, but for most of that song, it seems to me to have a sound of profound joy and happiness. Countless times I've come across songs about sadness and loss and hopelessness, and I've never felt that that was the way music ought to be, and the Ode to Joy represents to me everything that is counter to that kind of song. The Ode to Joy, to me, is a musical testament to man as a heroic, happy, creature, it is an acknowledgment of joy and accomplishment, both of which every man can experience.

Another song I've loved for a long time is "I Want It All" by Queen. I love both how it sounds, and the lyrics. Freddie Mercury seems to very often express in his lyrics the very things that I love to hear.

"It ain't much I'm asking, I heard him say,

Gotta find me a future, move out of my way..."

and

"I'm a man with a one track mind,

So much to do in one life time (people do you hear me)

Not a man for compromise and where's and why's and living lies

So I'm living it all, yes I'm living it all,

And I'm giving it all, and I'm giving it all, "

This is a perfect song for me.

I heard the album "origin of symmetry" during the second Lebanon war, at the same period i was reading "The Fountainhead" and this specific song was describing the exact awesome sensation of there is more in this world. The songs' lyrics are mostly description of the nature, the way I interpret this is that this great sensation of enlightenment is so unique that one cannot share it with any other human being and the only thing left is the esthetic representation of the world.

This is the main cover of the album:

Muse%20-%20Origin%20of%20Symmetry.jpg

I paid two months' army-salary (something like 200$) for printing and framing it. Different artists were asked to paint whatever pops into their mind when they think about "origin of symmetry", those are another beautiful results:

(1) (2) (3) (4)

From the broadway show, "Titanic: A New Musical", God Speed Titanic,

Farewell, farewell,

Godspeed, Titanic!

From your berth

glide free!

As you plow the deep

In your arms I'll keep.

safely west

may you carry me.

Sail on, sail on,

great ship Titanic!

Cross the open sea!

pray the journey sound

till your port be found.

Fortunes wait,

sing godspeed to thee!

Fortunes wait,

sing godspeed to thee!

I'd say a toss up between that and George Strait's "Amarillo by Morning"

They took my saddle in Huston,

broke my leg in Santa Fe.

Lost my wife and a girlfriend

somewhere along the way.

I'll be lookin' for eight

when they pull that gate

and I hope that judge aint blind

Amarillo by morning,

Amarillo's on my mind.

Amarillo by morning,

up from San Antone.

Everything that I've got

is just what I've got on.

I aint got a dime

but what I've got is mine.

I aint rich but lord I'm free.

Amarillo by morning,

Amarillo's where I'll be.

Ps, long time reader, first time poster.
