Is anyone else all ready to camp out and watch the DNC? I've got my popcorn and barf bag all set! Lets see what kind of petty infighting the dems can produce this year. Pelosi is just now taking the stand reminding us we're "one nation under god".

I have never watched a party convention before. Does anyone else get the impression that they are watching an Academy Awards broadcast or something like that?

Yes, but I don't think I've ever seen grandmas in feather boas and stars-and-stripes motif high hats at an award show. The more I watch this, the more I think I'm understanding Peikoff s decision to vote Democratic. Democratic presidencies are comparatively so few and far between, which I would think is because it clashes with the American sense of life. Voting for these yahoos consistently might make the GOP snap out of their religious kick and get it together.

At the same time... as I watch this I'm actually making notes and noting every time they squeeze in a mention religion and faith. And so far it's disturbingly high. Right now Jesse Jackson Jr. (wtf who knew he had a son, seriously he has a son? S.O.B.) is making a long winded screed on stage.

I'm boycotting because they're a bunch of closet fascists and they're going to win this election and make sure this nation doesn't survive another 30 years. I don't want to watch the beginning anymore then I want to watch the middle or the end.

The first event of the convention was a big inter-faith service. See, they can appeal to the evangelicals, just like the Republicans.

Now Michele Obama is on stage telling us how many things are wrong with America.

Ughh you are so right, this is more award-show-like than I had previously remembered. The writing is so canned and corny "Sometimes I feel like my brother is looking down on me... literally!" Hurhurhur. Segue to 3 youths urging you to text message "CHOOSE" to the DNC phone line.

What was the quote from Star Wars? "So this is how liberty dies... with thunderous applause." Something similar applies here I guess... "So this is how liberty dies... with stars-and-stripes motif top hats, feather boas, and text messaging." :D

Edit: They are now giving a very long and blatant prayer...

I don't want to over post this thread, and I'm sorry if anyone is getting annoyed by seeing a hundred dollar bill over and over, but just could not resist giving a virtual standing ovation to that last comment. Bravo, sir, bravo.

Haha.

I wouldn't be surprised. Obama is a celebrity to a lot of people.

And reminds me of a religious leader to a great many of his supporters. Maybe even a prophet.

Scary, in my opinion. "The One" and all that BS.

Wait, I just realized.

Barack Hussein Obama is Neo Anderson!

From listening to a few different parts of the convention on CSPAN, I have been shocked at the extent religion is playing in it. Particulary the first day's "inter-faith" nonsense. It's a bit frightening.

Has Peikoff's strategy of recommending votes for the Dhimmicrats changed with the sudden religious fervor being spouted by Obama and the other drones? The sudden rise of Christian Leftism is very disturbing. My province of Saskatchewan is only now beginning to recover from the socialist ruin inflicted upon it by Tommy Douglas, one of the more famous Christian Leftists that I can think of. We are still saddled with a massive welfare state including that famous Canadian soviet-style socialized medicine.

Is the USA ready for Jimmy Carter v2.0?

Peikoff must be hoping to force an Atlas Shrugged scenario. Or am I missing something?

I tend to agree.

I happened upon an interview with Pelosi yesterday, in which she was touting natural gas as an immediate source of relief on oil prices. She wants to pass legislation favoring natural gas. Then the interviewer pointed out that she owns stock in natural gas companies, and she responded that it was only a little bit, and moved on. :)

This kind of comment from politicians drives me nuts. While I didn't see the interview you mentioned, Madame Pelosi acts as if the private companies in the oil and gas industry had never even considered that natural gas is an alternative to oil and as though there aren't any practical obstacles to its use. Thank God that we have government officials like Pelosi around to tell the oil & gas executives how to run their businesses. She's truly a Renaissance Woman. Not only does she know what's good for all Americans, she's an expert in oil and gas, healthcare, autos, and virtually any other subject or industry you can name. And the American people continue to elect these assholes. :dough:

I saw that interview on Meet the Press. She was extolling the virtues of natural gas for a while at the same time calling for an end to fossil fuels. :dough:

Night 2 of the DNC coming up tonight! I think Hilary is speaking tonight if I remember correct, so possibly a chance for some irate Hillary protesters to blemish the party's lovely unity. I'd really like to find a transcript from night 1 for the closing prayer. I think they said something like "please help us solve these (economic) problems lord" "we have tried to solve these problems but they are still there".

My boyfriend works across from the Mint in Denver. (Which was supposed to have been levitated last night so that protesters could "shake the money out" in the Shake Your Money Maker demonstration...no kidding.) A coworker went with friends to the convention area last night with their protest sign. Made it onto MSNBC and everything! :)

You should see the calendar of protest events. One of my favorites is a bike ride on Wednesday called, "No War, No Warming!" Are these people for real?!

And finally, no picture, but a funny sign my boyfriend saw yesterday... "Riots For Peace!"

Looky what I found. Better than a transcript it's the full youtube video:

The speakers name is Donald Miller, here's the transcript on his blog:

http://www.donaldmillerwords.com/

And the particular quote I mentioned earlier:

Help us figure out the balance between economic opportunity and corporate gluttony.

We have tried to solve these problems ourselves but they are still there. We need your help.

Nothing very noteworthy so far tonight. Incredibly bland predictable speaking. Mostly trite little stories about "real americans" and vague rhetoric about green technology and jobs. The speakers are mostly unrecognizable governors, one of which looked disturbingly like some kind of androgynous, robust latex muppet. Hillary will be the real star tonight I guess. One small thing, during a clip of Obama he says something like "not just wealth, but the workers who create it", which is like, Marx 101. Not a surprise to anyone here though I'd assume, but there it is.

Hillary's talk last night wasn't terribly inspiring. Of course, she has to act as though she's a party loyalist who fully supports Obama. All the while, inside she is feverishly hoping that he loses so she can run again in 4 years. For Bill's part, he can hardly conceal his hatred of Obama. The Clintons are like a bad case of venerial disease.....they just don't ever seem to go away.

Ok so I just tuned in and apparently I missed the nomination process, or they had already decided before air time. I had heard they were going to decide at breakfast (?) instead, not sure what happened with that.

It's astounding how rote and shallow the repeated claims are this convention. It boils down to:

*McCain is equivalent to 4 more years of Bush.

*We need many more "green collar" jobs to strengthen the economy, and lessen our consumption of oil from abroad powered by wind and sunshine and feelings.

*The helpless need help, and the government needs to force everyone to pay for them.

*Something, something minorities.

Bill Clinton is going to speak later. I hope he will unleash some of his passive-aggressive dislike of Obama through the use of that famous ambiguous Clinton terminology.

Isn't he though? This is their main point against McCain.

Funny how John McCain has been "The Maverick" for the past 8 years... that is, until he becomes the Republican nominee. Then all of a sudden he is George Bush III.
