D'kian
The popular image of Americans in Mexico includes a patronizing attitude and dislike to all things Mexican, and to Mexicans themselves. The usual explanation for the US's immigration policy is that they simply don't like Mexicans. Well, due to the ongoing swine flu outbreak Mexicans are not very popualr in the world these days. Sunday's papers had the following anecdotes: The daughter of a Mexican couple living in Belgium was uninvited to a birthday party for fear she might infect the other children. Cuba, Ecuador and Argentina have banned air travel to and from Mexico. In China authorities are holding seventy recently arrived Mexicans in quarantine at a Beijing hotel. Conflicting reports indicate some were taken thre directly rfom the airport, while others were rounded up from elsewhere (there ought to be more than 70 Mexicans in China at any time, there are 2 direct flights Mexico-Beijing per week). In Spain assorted bystanders on the steet quickly covered their mouths when they saw a Mariachi band walk by. Most of the band were not Mexicans (don't ask, I don't know). News out of America centers mostly on that an Obama aide (or Whitehouse employee) was infected with Swine flu during Obama's recent visit to Mexico. Funny they didin't even blame the entire country.
