Guest Erik Martinsen
I'm studying Dr. Locke's book "Study Methods and Motivation" and am gaining great value from it. I have a question regarding some of the material in chapter 4 ("How to Do Abstract Integrative Reading"), where three of the separate types of integration listed are: "cause and effect relationships", "implications" and "applications." Under "cause and effect relationships" we are advised to ask "What are its effects and consequences? (Or: How does it affect other phenomena?)" Would it be correct to say that "implications" and "applications" might as well be classified as techniques under "cause and effect relationships", since both of these are used to determine the effects of ideas/phenomenon? When considering the implications and applications of an idea, is not ones motive always to determine effect?
