Juxtys
What about current elections? I voted for Maarten. And you? Btw. Notelitten is also a trusted person to vote for. Edited November 25, 2009 by Juxtys
Maarten
Woodhead, juxtys and I all have 1 vote currently. If others can also vote that'd be great =)
softwareNerd
Btw. Notelitten is also a trusted person to vote for.CWEarl is running too. I had to move back to Norway to vote, so I moved to Ostlandet and voted for CWEarl, since I figure most OO folks are in other regions. Back in Vestlandet, woodhead, Maarten and Juxtys still have only one vote each while Notelitten has none. For some reason, woodhead and Juxtys are shown as "Official candidates" while Maarten is shown as a "Wildcard" and Notelitten is shown as "Not Qualified". Suggest the next person who votes, does so for one of: woodhead, Maarten and Juxtys NickS, Gizmo17, Pokkarin, JakeThan and David Onsor are in Svalbard & Jan Mayen, where we all began. So, I figure they would have to move, in order to vote. Lazariun is in sunny Florida. Edited November 25, 2009 by softwareNerd

softwareNerd
For some reason, CWEarl now has 4 votes! That seems like more than enough to be in Congress. Is that a good guess? If so, is it time to get votes for Maarten (who has only 1) and for Juxtys (who has 2). I don't understand why Maarten (with 1 vote) and Notelitten (with zero) are listed as "Not qualified". What does "Wildcard" mean, and why is Woorhead with 1 vote a wildcard while people (from other parties) who have zero votes are listed as "official candidates". Anyone know? DavidOdden
What does "Wildcard" mean, and why is Woorhead with 1 vote a wildcard while people (from other parties) who have zero votes are listed as "official candidates".I asked this question last election and got a somewhat bullshit answer. The most relevant fact is that given a vote tie, the person with more experience points is ranked above the other. "Not Qualified" means "below the line", i.e. "would not be elected if the voting were over". However I do not understand how any candidate with zero votes can trump any candidate with one. I sort of suspect that the information isn't real-time, unless 3 people voted for CW all at once.

Juxtys
I've made a simple forum for Objectivist games (including an Erepublik forum) at http://objgamers.ucoz.com if anyone is interested.

I'm not big on conspiracies but the Teknokratene seem to believe that he is someone else, possibly a previously banned member? Who gets to decide who qualifies for these elections I wonder? Rockefeller
The overall current state of voting sorted by region can be seen here -- before you vote. Great, that's very helpful. I think I will wait 5-6 hours more before voting. I don't think we have sufficient votes for both Juxtys and Marteen because Vestland has a lot of (total) voters. So, I might end up voting for whosoever among them is up in the tally.
Zip
Anyone in Sorlandet should vote for ellisiv. She is our only candidate there.
DavidOdden
The e-Analytics display makes it all much clearer. In Sørland, KristofferAG who has no votes still "wins" because the top 6 candidates in each region win. Since he has more points, he beats Ellisiv. Everybody running in Trøndelag wins because there are 6 candidates. Then you take the 4 top vote-getters & point-havers regardless of region, and they also win. If we have someone in Sørland, they could vote for Ellisiv (who recently introduced a tax-lowering law).

Juxtys
We know have three members in congress. What laws should we try to put through?
DavidOdden
I don't know about best laws, but I have a view of issues deserving working on. At the top of the list is the matter of state budget. They justify those Norwegian-style taxes based on claims of necessity, but there is no proof of necessity. Because they have the power to tax at any rate they want, there is no need for them to justify the level of taxation by pointing to actual tax revenues plus other assets (I believe they have about 3500 gold squirreled away) versus objective necessity to spend. So when they argue "But how are we going to pay for hospitals?", the answer is in part "You've already stolen massive amounts of money, enough to buy Q5 hospitals for all regions plus a couple of Q5 defensive systems". In a rational system of government, the government would lay out the reasons for a proposed action, so that reasonable men could see "Yes, this is a good thing, and I support it". If the government were to start a campaign for contributions to support the building of a hospital in Nord-Norge, I would support that. First, I would like to move to Nord-Norge and a hospital would make that possible (or, better than "mere subsistence"). Second, it would make the region attractive to others, encouraging them to move there -- and that is good, because it makes the region and thus the country more defensible. (Nord-Norge is, in reality and in the game, Norway's Achilles heel in terms of invasion from Russia). The current regime depends on faith and inactive minds to achieve its ends: they merely assert "we need this" without proof, and they take what they want by force with no attempt to actively involve the minds of citizens. They don't even say what they are doing some of the time -- for example the whole behind-the-scenes hospital building project (which I expect will be a disaster: they've taken to hiring the party faithful who have no building skills and now after 2 weeks they are 1% finished). Such publically-visible discussion as there is on the forum is in the read-only Kongressen forum, thus limiting rational discussion. So it will fall to Juxtys, CW and Ellisiv to try to put these points out there.
Rockefeller
Quotes about Kapitalist Partiet from Sebulba's newspaper article: Cirno is our man! Kapitalist Partiet revealed This party consists largely of capitalists, as they like to describe themselves. But they are primarily objectivists, with Ayn Rand as their great role model. They are very against taxes, and want every citizen to be their own lucks smith. Revenues to pay the Allies, hospitals and Protection Pacts should only come from lotteries and donations. There is no need for welfare, and the newborn citizens will not be able to get support in the beginning, and an active army is hereby a thing of the past. They have put their thoughts and ideas willingly forward, but have met considerable resistance and skepticism, with yours truly as one of them. They should have a pat on the back for standing their ground, and that they are honest with what they want. What is not as positive, is that they distort the figures, as well as taking them out of context to fit their ideologies, and they are submiting exaggerated scaring propaganda. But enough about them... Do you think an honest reader will be able to look past the misrepresentations? The good thing is that he provides the link to the Wikipedia entry for Ayn Rand. Some comments also mention the Kapitalist Partiet.
Zip
He's more honest than I would have expected him to be. He is the biggest propagandist in the game IMO, but he loves to throw that word around. LOL
SoldierB
Hey guys. Good to see other reasonable people been playing Erep. I am living in alberta trying to save up for a house and political party by workin for land jobs. Anyone want to start a party with me or selling a house? Erep is a good place to spread Oism cause it gives us a place to show people how its done. Socialist canada has a centre right libertarian party but they do not have the right frame of mind when it comes to taxes and freedom. Hit me up in game. softwareNerd
Already working on it.I'm curious if anyone here has played some other web-based game similar to eRepublik. A search turned up a few popular PC-based "civilization" and "colonization" games, but nothing online/web-based that was popular.
Zip
I'm curious if anyone here has played some other web-based game similar to eRepublik. A search turned up a few popular PC-based "civilization" and "colonization" games, but nothing online/web-based that was popular. sN, I've been looking for a long time and I haven't found anything (either Web or PC based) that fits the bill for me. Most are far too traditional, which is to say that they depend on established political, economic and social ideals, and there are too many prejudices built into the game to play it as an Objectivist. I'd really like to find something that starts at year 0 and lets the player develop the society on his own without being based on mysticism or the welfare state. Perhaps something that actually bases itself on the players philosophy (with a quiz at the start so that could be determined) and goes from there. Zip
Just in case you don't know the "Shouts" we use in game even on the "friends" channel are public. I didn't know am I the only one? :?
DavidOdden
I figured that out a while ago, but assumed they were "friends only". In fact they are broadcast to friends only, but readable by anybody.
Juxtys
I think we should be more active at NorwayLoto. Also, we should somehow prove Sebulba's "Propaganda!" being a propaganda on which I'm working right now. All we need to do is more activism, of course.
