NIJamesHughes
I've read some things by Nathaniel Brandon, most his condemnation of Ayn Rand, and his articles is VoS and CUI. I liked the articles in the books and i know that it was written before the break with Miss Rand. For those that have read it.. Is it worth the investment in time and money? PS I apologize, I meant "The psychology of self-esteem"
Free Capitalist
"it worth the investment in time and money?" P of SE? or 6 Pillars? P of SE is definitely worth it, whereas I cannot recommend 6 Pillars personally, never having read it. However, historically it was written later (i.e. when NB had gotten worse), and he himself refers to P of SE as the most serious and most "philosophical" of all his books. Cursory survey of some of his later works shows this to be true, since the more time passed, the less focused and precise he became in his formulations and definitions. But at the same time, 6 Pillars wasn't written *that much longer* after P of SE, around '75 I believe; I've heard some people swear by it as a seminal work in psychology (and tremendous in how it helped them..). Quantum Mechanic
I thoroughly enjoyed Six Pillars. I still don't understand this stigma against Brandon.
ex_banana-eater
I just took out "6 Pillars" in the library today, and will let you all know how I liked it in a follow up post. Most libraries should have it since it's a fairly common self-help book.
