2046
Rep. Alan Grayson (D-Florida) has introduced the "War is Making You Poor Act" co-sponsored by Rep. Ron Paul to cut separate funding for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and uses the money to eliminate federal income taxes on every American's first $35,000 of income. I like this a lot better than the evil "Share the Sacrifice Act of 2010" from the evil Rep. David Obey. Here is Grayson explaining the bill on the House floor. http://www.opencongress.org/bill/111-h5353/show To reduce the $159.3 billion from the discretionary overseas contingency operations funds in the President's fiscal year 2011 budget for operations in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan (without preventing use of mandatory funds from the Department of Defense budget to execute the War on Terror), and amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to provide individuals a "War is Making You Poor" tax credit against the savings attributable to the overseas contingency operations reduction. One practical difficulty with this is that the fewer people that pay income tax, the more that can vote for more government secure in the knowledge they won't be paying for it. Objectivism condemns the idea of taxation, but of course in our current context it's unavoidable. (Ayn Rand herself said that the tax issue is probably the last thing an emerging Objectivist state would deal with, and she said this because it makes no sense to push for the abolition of all taxes until government is finally restricted to what it should be doing.) In the meantime the last thing we want to do is pass an adjustment to the current tax code that will only make the current looters-vs-productive situation worse and more intractable. Grames
There will be no execution of any operations in the War on the Taliban if Grayson succeeds in getting all of the gas money and ammunition money stripped from the budget. Grayson is a lunatic of the worst sort, and look at the bill's co-sponsors: Ron Paul, Walter Jones, John Conyers, Lynn Woolsey, and Dennis Kucinich. Money spent killing Taliban is money well spent.
