Paul Hsieh pointed out that in Ryan's newest article in WSJ today, he said he endorses the idea "that the state has legitimate—and critical—functions, from rectifying market failures to securing some minimum standard of living". He also voted for TARP.

The only conceivable good that could come from his lip service to Rand is that maybe some folks will go off and read her writings for themselves, and come to the right conclusions.

Agreed. Ryan talks a good game from time to time, but he's a neo-conservative up-and-comer. If you've read Brad Thompson's Neo-Conservatism: An Obituary for an Idea you'll understand why that's bad news.

True, he has some real faults..but he has far better views than many/most conservative politicians.

Substantiate this? His social conservatism is off the charts. He supports mixed economics. He is simply talking a big game because the Republican flavor of the month is some kind of libertarian-Sarah Palin hybrid.

How many conservative congressman do you know of who want privatize social security? Honestly, I don't know much about him or his positions. The issues that I've heard him speak on I've agreed with him (ex. privatization, as demonstrated in the above video).
