Collectivist
Is it possible to be an Objectivist and a fantasy story writer ( and poet ) at the same time? Is creating fantastic creatures, worlds ( sometimes religions) and characters who battle and over come evil by their own individual methods and skills in line with Objectivist ethics? tadmjones
Are you asking if writing fiction is or is not a worthwhile pursuit, or if the genre is "acceptable "? I think the answer to the former is obvious, and to the latter maybe don't ask who will let you just let them try and stop you Collectivist
DerickAlsept
If you have a story to tell, tell it. Ms. Rand once said that it is impossible to relate a new idea in an old way, but when it comes to writing, I believe that she was mistaken. I think that the high fantasy genre is a great place to display Objectivist thinking. Since the writer is in control of the world, the writer can make sure that that world is consistent and operates under objective rules. Spiral Architect
Absolutely. Objectivism as an Aesthetic Theory is about content, not genre. In fact one could argue the popularity of fantasy films in modern times, from heroic fantasy (Lord of the Rings) to Super Heroes (Marvel) in that they do heroic fiction better in ways people relate too then a lot of cinema. It depends if the theme of the novel, and/or its protagonists, contradict Objectivist principles.
