Canada is holding a federal election today.  They have a Libertarian party which is of course no where near the popularity of the mainstream socialist parties there, but having a look at the Libertarian Party's website, especially their principles and policies.... they seem to get it right.  So I was pleasantly surprised.

What do you think?

Most of their platform would be an improvement over the status quo, with two major exceptions:

1. Military isolationism is a shorts sighted policy that has proven self defeating, through history.

2. Political and economic autonomy for Native American communities (and by extension, the governments they form), is a racist policy (for obvious reasons) which denies individuals who inhabit those lands the protections of an individual rights respecting central government. And those are the individuals who need those protections the most, because there is no doubt in my mind that communities that define themselves along racial lines would use all the power they would gain from this autonomy towards a collectivist, anti-individualist end.

I think the Conservatives are clearly the lesser evil of the three main parties and there's no sense throwing away my vote on a party that has zero chance of electing a single MP. Beyond that, it's a good sign that libertarianism exists in Canada, but I doubt this kind of political activism can have much effect at all.
