As a newcomer, it strikes me that there are too many subforums.  Would you consider combining some?

What do you see as the pros and cons?

I think the forum software allows sub-forums to be merged. The bigger job may be to figure out the structure.

There are so many threads now that Google search is the best way to navigate the forum if you're looking for a specific topic.

Just start merging several forums as an experiment, and see how you like it.  I think it will be better to have fewer to keep track of.  The only reason to have separate subforums is when they get too active to keep track of, so that visitors can focus on the subforums they care about the most.  However, having a subforum for aesthetics and a subforum for literature and arts.  I understand the differences between the two, but niether one is popular enough to stand on its own.

It's simple for me, I do that sorta thing for a living. I'll make a hierarchy, then see if Jaskn can implement it.

With IPS discontinuing chat, identifying a hierarchy—topic-wise—may be something I can readily relate to and implement, depending on the complexity and logistics of such a task. Typically, I search on keywords or phrases to find previous postings. I don't see, offhand, how restructuring the database configuration would augment that.
