Police Response In New Orleans

Initially you would think this is the good part:

NEW ORLEANS - Police shot eight people carrying guns on a New Orleans bridge Sunday, killing five or six, a deputy chief said. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9208195/

But it isn't:

A spokesman for the Army Corps of Engineers said the victims were contractors on their way to repair a canal.

So, while the National Guard and the police look on while looters carry stolen goods (not simply food, for which there's an emergency argument, especially given that it can never be salvaged considering the conditions), the first known action taken is against productive men tasked with trying to fix this fiasco, who were obviously armed in self defense against the out of control armed looters ignored previously by the government.

I suppose I shouldn't read about this stuff, but when I do, it just completely disgusts me.

Update: See my followup post - apparently the original MSNBC story had it all wrong, the updated one is totally different and much better.

I cannot figure out that report. It says they were killed, but none were killed! What am I missing?

The MSNBC story was completely rewritten since I posted on it. The rewritten one is totally different, indicating that the police *did* fire on the right people, armed looters, and apparently protecting the contractors - or at least that's the direct implication. Good!

I just saw a FOX report that backs up the new version: some gunmen started shooting at engineers who had a police/army escort. The Escort returned fire, killing at least 5 of the attackers.

Not sure if this make me more sick or less!
