Ravane
Now that the dramatic title is out of the way... Hello, my name is not Ravane, but you can call me that. I'm 19 years old, female, and an animation major. You can view some of my artwork on my deviantart gallery at http://elwryn.deviantart.com . I enjoy drawing (obviously), singing, and writing. My favorite musicians are Nobuo Uematsu, Yoko Kanno, Tool, A Perfect Circle, The Decemberists, The Mars Volta, and Radiohead, among others. I enjoy reading. I usually read fantasy novels but was strongly advised to pick up The Fountainhead by a friend of mine and never looked back. Currently my favorite novels are We The Living, Atlas Shrugged and The Magic of Recluse. Other books I have read include a good bit of the Wheel of Time series, most of R.A. Salavtore's work, a good many Dragonlance novels, and the Myst series. I also play videogames. I'm learning how to 3D model and know a little programming. I like the Final Fantasy series, but my favorite game of all time is probably Azure Dreams. And Pocket Fighter. I'm writing a novel called Defiant, whose contents I am not yet prepared to divulge. Suffice to say the plot is Man v. God. I like anime, though I'm really starting to lose interest in a lot of it. My favorite movies are Kill Bill and Sin City. Erm. I'm actually a really competitive and spontaneous sort of person, and have a good sense of humor, but I'm working off of sleep deprivation right now. I hate doing these posts because when I re-read on them they sound like some sort of cheesy personals ad... Anyway, I'm also working on a comic based on the game FFXI (it's a humor peice) but that's still en progresse. I like to do to many things at once, and I like people who are well spoken, confident, energetic and above all, intelligent. I live to compete and my friends are my best competition. And that's all, I think. I'm from Lousiana, USA. --- v.
dondigitalia
Wow, you sound really cool! Great taste in music, cool artwork, and you play FFXI!!!! What server are you on? Kujata, by chance?
Ravane
No, Ragnarok. I quit at the beginning of the school year because FFXI and college don't mix... But if I play again I'll let you know, maybe I could get a WP? I'd miss my friends on Ragnarok though. I'm a 33 Mithra Monk.

I'm a jack of all trades. My job listing is: 55 PLD, 51 BST, 38 WHM, 30 BLM, 30 WAR, 45 THF, 22 RNG, 10 NIN, 6 DRK, 18 SMN, 15 MNK Name is Roark. Rank 6 Bastokan. Even though PLD is my highest, I'm really all about BST nowadays. If you wanna start back up again, let me know. I'll hook you up with some startup gil and shower you with powerlevels, lol. Yes, that's right, I'm a big nerd.
Ravane
Ooooh maaaaaan... There was a guy on my server named Roark...I always tried to catch him online but he was always /afk. I think he was Japanese anyway. I remember one night I left my character standing at the altar of the church in Jeuno all night with the /check message "The Fountainhead [Do you have it?] A novel by Ayn Rand." I always wanted to do BST but could never get past the first few levels- I'd always wonder why the hell I wasn't leveling Monk.

It's a tough one. Very slow at first and you die a lot. But, once you get high enough that you can solo an IT++ and get xp chain #4 for 280 it all pays off. We BST are a snooty bunch, lol. Ravane
I can imagine being a BST would be rewarding...I always wanted to do it cause I liked going on "adventures". It's why I never got past level 33- I'd always decide, "I wonder what X looks like?" and go for it. But I was always one of the best DDs in my parties. I usually out damage the blackmage, though no one'd believe it.

Our student government does not give funding to clubs for regular meetings, so the way around it is to advertise it as a special event and invite the entire student body, and members of the surrounding community (to whom I can charge admission!). I'm calling the special event the "Objectivist Video Series."

I've always wanted to see videos of Ayn Rand's speeches; I assumed if her writing made me happy seeing her in person could only improve the effect. They are typically lectures given by other prominent Objectivists. I think I have a url at home for a website where you can watch an old televised interview with Miss Rand. If I can find it, I'll post it up here for you.

(I'm 23) I have to say that being from southern Louisiana is not the worst thing from an Objectivist viewpoint. Most of the people are Republican and only somewhat religious. Its not like Lafayette is infested with Socialists and/or Fundamentalist Christians. lol, ah yes, the always interesting Philosophy club. I went to a few debates here and there, but was never a member.

Prometheus98876
Hello Ravane, welcome to the forums! I have a few questions for you: What do you like about the Dragonlance novels? I read the you know a little programming, what are your favorite programming languages (myself I like VB, C++ (despite the fact it was based on C ) and I know a fair bit of web coding (HTML and Javascript). Ok, enough with the long list of questions. I noticed that you are writing a novel. I am too, a novel dealing with the importance of philosophy to all humans, and the nature of human rights. I use a highly developed robot with "human-level" AI to explore this (and its counterpart). It is going well so far, and I hope to have a "final" draft of Chapter One ready for public preview soon. My favorite language? It'd be HTML, which I don't think counts. I'm basically teaching myself HTML. I've taken courses in Java and taught myself basic C++. I'm not very proficent in Java- I took Java 1 and 2 (courses) and we barely got past the basics. :/ I think we finally started doing Java GUI at the end. My favorite part of the Dragonlance series was Rastlin and my favorite book was Soulforge, though I remember little of it. I should probably re-read it...I haven't read them in years. I'd be interested in reading the preview of your novel. I guess when I flesh out a decent plot summary for mine I'll post it up here. lol, all kinds of FF-nerds up in here! I had a really crappy day, so I drowned my sorrows in FF tonight. It was such a good FF night, though that it completely turned my day around! Oh, how so? BTW, I haven't been able to watch that video, my internet browser doesn't support quicktime apps. (Opera)

EH?! I haven't read the material provided directly by AmericanWriters.org, but the videos are of value. Also, as I understand it, Ayn Rand did have some Nietzschean influence in her early years, which she later rejected as she started to develop Objectivism. I can sort of understand the association of Nietzsche to The Fountainhead; just look at Gail Wynand and the early Dominique.
