Changing User Name

Yes, it's an admin function. One problem with the software is that it does not go through past posts and change the name. So, someone searching for "John Locke" might come to the forum and find all the posts where other members quoted a post by John Locke. Looking at two or three such messages, and linking back from the quoted portion, one can deduce that John Locke changed his name to "Freddy Mercury".

Despite this ability to figure things out, name changes can cause some confusion since regulars actually build up a concept of other posters, and that concept is tied to their Display name. If a user still wishes to change their name, we're fine with one-time name-change requests, asking that the user adds something in their signature -- for a month or two -- that tells regulars who they were. As in "User previously known as 'John L.".

To "MD": I have PM-ed you.
