rdenoncourt
I thought the people on this forum could help me out. I'm a big Ayn Rand aficionado and am looking for other writers who present Objectivist (specifically capitalist) themes in any of their short stories or poems. They could be symbolic of a capitalist system or directly related to free markets. They have to be by authors who are somewhat well known (i.e. not some guy who published a short story on a blog). Thanks everyone.

Qwertz
The Little Red Hen. Usually. It's been rewritten several times. Later revisions tend to be less capitalistic. -Q
boxbanger_
I doubt many have ever considered Anton Chekhov, but I read it and see many parallels. Try these five short stories: The Black Monk, The House with the Mezzanine, The Peasants, Gooseberries, and The Lady with the Toy Dog. If anyone else has any knowledge of these, speak up. realitycheck44
For starters, Ed Cline's Sparrowhawk series (four books to date), Calumet "K" by Merwin and Webster, and Hawthorne's The Scarlet Letter. Note that not all of these are necessarily Capitalistic, but they all endorse very Objectivist viewpoints. Zak
FeatherFall
I am going to second the Sparrowhawk suggestion. While capitalism as an economic system is alluded to, capitalism as a political system permeates the series. It isn't a short story, though. realitycheck44
Oh, I didn't even notice that it said short stories and poems. For poems, I'd suggest Berton Braley. I loved his poems Anti-social and The Thinker, and there was one more, but I forgot the name of it. Anyway, a google search should point out you to an online "museum" where most of his works can be viewed for free. Zak

One who has yearnings For equal division Of unequal earnings Idler or idiot For both he is willing To fork out his penny and pocket your shilling. -- Ebenezer Elliot
fatdogs12
Horatio Alger? His stories usually have a usual propensity towards capitalistic ideals.
