The Wrath
Has anyone been able to form an opinion of this guy yet? I hate the UN as much as anyone, but from what I've read of this guy, he doesn't sound too bad. Firstly, he comes from South Korea, which is a pretty Westernized country. I doubt he'll be quite as ready to appease Kim Jung Il as many other candidates would have been. But here's the thing that really makes me think we're lucky to have him there. When talking about the death penalty, which he personally opposes, he stated that it was "for each and every member state to decide." What this says to me is that he doesn't think the UN should be instructing member nations in their own affairs. Some other high-ranking UN guy recently came out and said that he thinks control of the internet should remain under ICANN. This is a good thing, and I imagine that Ki-moon had something to do with it.
gags
It's probably too early to judge Ban Ki Moon, nevertheless he has to be an improvement over the criminal who just vacated the office.
DarkWaters
John Bolton has written a favorable opinion of Ban Ki-Moon in the Washington Post.
