Ella Lacroix
Does anyone know of any books that deal with the topic of metaphysical rebellion other than The Rebel by Albert Camus? The book inspired me to base a collection (I am a designer and most of my work is inspired by philosophy) on metaphysical rebellion but I would like to read other books on the topic to further my knowledge of it. Comments/opinions on metaphysical rebellion are also welcome!
Reidy
Never saw this phrase. Can you tell us what it means?
Ella Lacroix
Albert Camus defines metaphysical rebellion as "the movement by which man protests against his condition and against the whole of creation."
Eiuol
"The Fountainhead" might be good. Now, it's not really about protesting the whole of creation/reality, but it certainly is about rebellion against one's conditions for the better, at least in part. Good for a comparison at least to see different ideas of how to get past or overcome sucky conditions in life.
StrictlyLogical
If you are looking for something in favor of and/or investigating "metaphysical rebellion" this is likely the last place you should ask about it, and you should probably stay away from all of Rand's works if "metaphysical rebellion" is your interest. Plasmatic
Why were the other comments deleted? Is it something to do with the changing of the server? Edited May 23, 2015 by Plasmatic
Eiuol
It must be related to the server move. Pretty annoying since now all of yesterday's post seem to be gone. =\
Popular Post Reidy
I chimed in yesterday that metaphysical rebellion as #3 explains it is characteristic of Rand's villains. They are in full revolt against one fact about the human condition: the necessity to make a deliberate effort to think and to act on the results. (I thought that Rand was the only one who used "metaphysical" this way, but apparently Camus does too. Some authors use "existential" to mean the same.) ((How metaphysical rebellion applies to clothes in an intriguing speculation. No head openings. Three legs. Two right shoes. Wrong for the weather. Bras for men and jockstraps for women.))
