The best update yet. The HRC has dismissed the charges. Though, agreeing with Mr. Levant, there is still plenty to be angry about.

This more than anything exposes the capricious and vicious nature of these Speech Nazi's. Fire. Them. All.

It disgusts me that this is happening in my country.

I got an email today, which is a copy of this blogpost on Mr. Levant's site.

This is a shocking case of libel chill that should concern anyone who is worried about radical Islam, the right to criticize it, and the right to call out anti-Semitism in the public square.

If this judgment stands, anyone who dares to challenge members of Muslim extremist groups on the basis of their affiliation with such groups is at risk of costly lawsuits — and all the member of the anti-Semitic group needs to do is to deny that they share the beliefs of their organizations that they work hard to promote, or say they had no clue their anti-Semitic group was anti-Semitic.
[...]
The comments in question were written on my personal blog six years ago, and so I’m footing the legal bills for this fight myself. The cost of the appeal will surely be at least $30,000 — and I’ve got to come up with that right now. If you share my belief that we cannot let this ruling stand please help me appeal this case now, by clicking here to contribute to my legal costs.

It's unclear how this the lawsuit in this email/article relates to the lawsuits mentioned earlier in the thread, six years ago. The names and circumstances are different, but he had been sued before by several people for the same "infractions." At minimum, Levant appears to be a target for these types of lawsuits. He seems to be holding up very well in the face of things, so perhaps he does this on purpose -- which others should be thankful for! Nevertheless, real money is at stake, and the fact that he sent an email out means he probably legitimately needs the donations.

I find it a disgrace to those who fight with their lives every single day and make many other sacrifices in an effort to keep the freedom many take for granted. If freedom is a right ? why are we struggling to keep it ? why do we continue to give up our rights every single day to those who are suppose to be Governing our Government not ruling it ? "WE" the people will not have one single right to do anything other than what we are told we can and believe we will have no rights or the freedom to choose if we continue to allow those of power to control and deny us "THE RIGHT". "WE THE PEOPLE" need to take a stand against these legalized crooks, come on people lets ban together and stand up for ourselves and stop these crooks from robbing us. I have never been one to engage in political issues simply because I have very strong opinions and politics have and continue to light a fire up in me that "I" alone have no power to change. I would like to say that what I write is "MY OPINION" which I have a right to and what I say are my words which I also have the right to speak, directed at no one individual. Why aren't those whom we employ to protect our rights, speak on our behalf, and represent us doing what we pay them to? because we aren't requiring them to, or holding them accountable for not doing their jobs. It is refreshing to know that someone out there isn't afraid to stand up, speak up and defend their Constitutional Rights, not willing to back down out of fear. We should all be so brave and courageous. No fight is lost until one gives it up.

The answer is that we want to give up these rights because we want to prosecute people like Mr. Levant for speaking their mind in politically incorrect ways.

Not you, not me, but we... we the people. The government just reflects the ideology of its citizens.

Teri - there is a fairly minor, but influential philosopher named Schopenhauer.  His influence brought in the idea that human life is a struggle and a real bitch.  This idea is common today and has led to a desire for safety over liberty and self-agency.  Many people are willing to surrender their rights if they receive comfort and safety in return.  These people do not want to change any aspect of their material existence to gain safety, so they surrender their liberty when their leaders say they will be safe.

Also, not understanding the rights of individuals nor the principle of non initiation of harm, while fully understanding the power of a mixed economy "democracy", these people are willing to surrender i.e. violate OTHER people's rights in return for their comfort and safety.
