Objectivism Is The Everyman's Philosophy
In the universe, what you see is what you get,
figuring it out for yourself is the way to happiness,
and each person's independence is respected by all

Rand's Philosophy in Her Own Words
- "Metaphysics: Objective Reality" "Nature, to be commanded, must be obeyed/Wishing won’t make it so." "The universe exists independent of consciousness"
- "Epistemology: Reason" "You can’t eat your cake and have it, too." "Thinking is man’s only basic virtue"
- "Ethics: Self-interest" "Man is an end in himself." "Man must act for his own rational self-interest" "The purpose of morality is to teach you[...] to enjoy yourself and live"
- "Politics: Capitalism" "Give me liberty or give me death." "If life on earth is [a man's] purpose, he has a right to live as a rational being"

By the tortured one,
This is my first post, so i might as well introduce myself
I have been a capitalist all my life. I always felt that theft was wrong regardless. It wasn't until I read Atlas Shrugged that I found my calling as an objectivist. I still support the Libertarian party, even though the two believes are founded on fundamental (but similar) differences.
But it sucks when i debate online and I am the only objectivist and I have a debate going against three or four socialists. It's very frustrati

Film Company to Bring "Atlas Shrugged" to the Screen
A new project to film Atlas Shrugged has just been launched. Crusader Entertainment,
LLC, a Beverly Hills-based production company, announced on May 12
that it had acquired the film rights to Ayn Rand's great novel. The
company also announced that it has signed veteran screenwriter James
V. Hart, whose film credits include the ambitious adaptation of Carl
Sagan's science fiction novel Contact, to write the screenplay.
Looking To Relocate To Southern California
By Pericles(MBA),
Hello,
Just thought I might put this out there in case anybody should come across a lead they might be willing to forward to me. I'm a computer tech in Phoenix, Arizona looking to relocate to S. California. I've burned out on the heat and dry air, and am looking for a more hospitable climate. I am looking for work doing tech support for either a military installation; or a pharmaceutical/biosci/university that does medical research and development. You can reach me by sending an emai
The Space-time Continuum
By oldsalt,
In an earlier thread on space and time, I wrote the following (trying, in my ignorance, to formulate a definition):
"Metaphysically, entites are space; epistemologically, entities are spacial. Time is the measurement of the spacial relationship between entities.
....
Time is an abstract (i.e., conceptual) expression of one kind of relationship (motion) between entities. Spacial relationships determine temporal ones. Both are epistemological, not metaphysical, in nature because
Any weblinks about Aristotle's Immovable Mover?
By I. Kant,
Is anyone familiar with aristotle's theory of the immovable mover? Any links about it? I first read about it in Atlas Shrugged, when Francisco got the money to buy a mine and explaining it to his father. I tried google, but I couldn't find anything useful.

What Political Party Do You Vote For?
By Dagny,
mostly i have voted Republican in the past, but then i don't agree with all republican issues. for instance i'm pro-choice. as elections are coming up I'm curious as to what my fellow objectivists choose when they go to vote, if at all.
Don't forget to let us know why you vote for your political party in the forum replies.
What do you think of the concept of "luck"?
By RationalBiker,
I have been thinking about this for awhile and I don't really believe in luck as a concept.
I have seen too many references to people as being lucky, unlucky, fortunate or unfortunate as though their preparation, behavior and actions had nothing to do with their outcomes. I envision some people thinking of luck as some unseen mystical force at work favoring some folks and slamming others.
Me, I think it's merely intricate physics or other casual factors which are unknown, unpredictabl
Humorous Stories Of Activism?
By Pericles(MBA),
I'm curious if anybody has funny activism stories they would care to relate.
I have a recent one, from a friend of mine. ...lets call him 'Larry'.
Affirmative action is an issue that pushes his buttons. One day he decided to do something, that although arguably was not very effective, is still a funny story.
He heard about a job opening with a university, that involved his field of information technology support, but the job description specifically requested someone of hispanic
