Objectivism Is The Everyman's Philosophy
In the universe, what you see is what you get,
figuring it out for yourself is the way to happiness,
and each person's independence is respected by all

Rand's Philosophy in Her Own Words
- "Metaphysics: Objective Reality" "Nature, to be commanded, must be obeyed/Wishing won’t make it so." "The universe exists independent of consciousness"
- "Epistemology: Reason" "You can’t eat your cake and have it, too." "Thinking is man’s only basic virtue"
- "Ethics: Self-interest" "Man is an end in himself." "Man must act for his own rational self-interest" "The purpose of morality is to teach you[...] to enjoy yourself and live"
- "Politics: Capitalism" "Give me liberty or give me death." "If life on earth is [a man's] purpose, he has a right to live as a rational being"

Peter Schwartz on Fox

By Atlas51184,
I did, and it was lame. He was supposed to talk about foreign policy and American self-interest, but Geraldo asked him about the drug problems in Columbia. He talked about drug legalization for about a minute and then it was over.
Topics

By John,
I suggest separate forums for the five branches of objectivism since this is a site for objectivism which has five branches.
Why so quiet?

By Gabriel,
Why so quiet? Are we out of ideas already? :-)
Maybe we should try to get more people to visit this site. I'm forwarding the link to a bunch of people right now. Maybe you should do too.
My Vacation

By John,
I'm going to be going on vacation for the next week. After almost two years of year round school and work (at sear auto center) I'm going to be camping and fishing for a week. If I don't reply to anything for a while you now know why.
The Nature Of Mistaken Ideas?

By Gabriel,
I'm a bit puzzled. I'm not sure if it's something about the way Objectivist express themselves, or if it's something related to the English language.
Let's take Marx/communism.
I'd say he applied reason (induction&deduction) consistently on the WRONG premises. (using emotions or traditions as valid epistemological tools)
Many ideologies are appealing to reasoning people/youth exactly because they embrace "reason as tool", but apply it to wrong ideas.
Even before meeting Objecti
Why are people evil? Why do they evade?

By Gabriel,
Reading Ayn Rand, I found many psychological notions, such as self-esteem, that I think are not treated widely enough in those books.
Let's take for example the issue of the existence of evil.
Simplistically put, all evil can be back-traced to the decision to escape reality, turn away, and ignore the feedback. My question is, why would someone do that?
I agree that it's 100% volitional choice, but all choices have causes. I do not think that there are any random choices. All of our c
How to think at the highest level of abstraction?

By Gabriel,
Great philosophers, like Ayn Rand or Aristotle, have identified principles of such generality, that only a dispassionate analysis of reality could enable.
The identification of the Axioms of Existence requires, as I see it, a complet detachment of the context of one's life and individual preferences/experiences/particularities. To think on such an abstract level requires a very "naked" perspective on reality.
How does one think so clearly, and how does one detaches one's self from the ind

My New Blog Site

By RationalEgoistSG,
I would like to inform you all of the creation of my very own blog site!

disallowing anonymous posts

By Gabriel,
Shouldn't we disallow anonymous/guest posting, to avoid getting flamed or annoyed by all kind of idiots? I'd suggest this policy for ALL sites on the internet (vs. intranet sites, that is). Registration is fast and painless. If someone wants to ask us about the difference between nihilism and Objectivism, let him work for it a bit :-)
...just a suggestion.
