    Objectivism Is The Everyman's Philosophy

In the universe, what you see is what you get,

Hey guys, So... I was going to hold off until I got the code completely worked out, but nah... I'm getting to the point where I'm racking up more entries than people will want to read on a first visit, so it's time to go public. Check it out at http://minorityofone.rationalmind.net. I still have some work to do on the code, so there's a chance the site will look really weird at some point. Please let me know if it does -- it's possible that you've opened it while I'm working on the c

    Hello, and an introduction

    By Carla,
Hi everyone. I've been lurking around here for a while, and since I just posted for the first time (on another thread) I figure it's about time to introduce myself. I am a senior at Swarthmore College, an institution located on Crum Creek in Pennsylvania and once described by Spiro T. Agnew as "the Kremlin on the Crum." It's a nickname that still fits pretty well. I wouldn't call myself an Objectivist yet, as I am still learning, but I have been studying Objectivism off-and-on since my

What is the imagination in Aristotle's De Anima?

    danielshrugged
    By danielshrugged,
This is a question for those who have studied Aristotle's De Anima. I am in the process of writing a lengthy (20 pages) paper on the imagination in De Anima. Aristotle defines the imagination as a movement produced by sensation actively operating, and also says that such a movement will differ from the actual sensation in each of the three modes of perception: proper, incidental, and common (428b26). Aquinas, in his commentary, confirms my interpretation of this: that imagination refers to that

    Calling all Writers!

The Objectivist Theatre Company is a brand new shining star on the Manhattan theater scene. They do black-box theater with a positive sense of life. They've already put on a 4-week run if Ayn Rand's "The Night of January 16th," which was fantastically successful. ("Not Guilty" all 12 nights! New York really is a city of indomitable spirit.) However, unfortunately, there is a great shortage of plays that portray the kind of ideas that the Objectivist Theatre Company stands for. That's w

    Is Praxeology compatible with Objectivism?

    By freefrag,
I was reading mises.org the other day where I encountered the word praxeology. I looked up the word, and it seemed to be similar to Objectivism. http://www.praxeology.net/praxeo.htm

    Leonard's Library of Congress Adventure

    By NIJamesHughes,
What I want to know is why he was donating the manuscripts to the government and not to a private institute: i think Miss Rand would have much prefered that, rather than having her works in the hands of the Moochers and Looters. Does anyone know what the deal is? Once i read that i lost a lot of respect for him. I mean he was gripping about the government totalitarianism with one hand and feeding them with the other. It doesn't make sense to me. That he is old and thought he was dying isn'

    gender equality

    By chanticleer,
Hi, I'm new to the forum. I would like to know if there is any objectivist literature on gender equality. I am a Women's studies major and could use a different viewpoint than the hostile anti-male ones I am so often assigned to read! Also, has Ayn Rand specifically written anything about motherhood? And if so, did she support working women, or did she feel that women should have a more traditional place (i.e. in the home)>

    ACLU and Objectivism

    By Guest ginzershop,
When Perusing "objectivist" web pages, I have noticed an interesting phenomenon; None of the websites have links to the ACLU which is perhaps the most powerful and effective guaranteer of individual rights in this country. Their mission has four goals it strives for; "Your right to privacy - freedom from unwarranted government intrusion into your personal and private affairs." This seems to be an important aspect of Objectivism, as is this; "Your right to due process - fair

    Introspective evidence for measurement-omission?

    msb
    By msb,
Let me begin by saying that I think AR's theory of measurement omission in concept-formation is correct. Sometimes it is difficult to figure out how measurement omission applies to a particular concept, but it is always possible in the end, and once you figure it out you can see that that is, in fact, how the concept is organized. My problem is specifically in regard to the possibility of introspectively observing your mind omitting the measurements during the formation of a concept. I abso
