Objectivism Is The Everyman's Philosophy
In the universe, what you see is what you get,
figuring it out for yourself is the way to happiness,
and each person's independence is respected by all

A Very Common Libertarian Argument

By argive99,
Hello everybody, this is my first serious post. I have read the boards for a while and while Libertarian politics are often discussed, I have a question pertaining to core arguments of their foreign policy.
I have been debating with a Libertarian elsewhere on the net and I have asked his permission to reprint here his basic foreign policy arguments. His is a very good summary of similar arguments that I find from a wide cross section of Libertarians and even some who call themseles Objecti
Swan Lake

By danielshrugged,
This is a rather specific question, but one I have been unable to answer. Are there any GOOD (complete) recordings of Swan Lake out there? The music library at my college had one on record that I loved (I suppose they must still have it somewhere, though I couldn't find it today). Aside from that one, the music library has the Dutoit recording on CD, which I for one find lifeless and lacking in passion.

Whose War?
A neoconservative clique seeks to ensnare our country in a series of wars that are not in America’s interest.
by Patrick J. Buchanan
The War Party may have gotten its war. But it has also gotten something it did not bargain for. Its membership lists and associations have been exposed and its motives challenged. In a rare moment in U.S. journalism, T

Keynes: "Capitalism's Savior"

By Kitty Hawk,
Yes, according to the April 12th issue of Business Week magazine, John Maynard Keynes was the savior of capitalism. In a continuing series of articles called The Great Innovators, this week's article is on Keynes.
The author of the article, Christopher Farrell, heaped praise on Keynes for persuading a generation of thinkers and leaders "to abandon a near-theological belief in balanced budgets. He showed that government could get trapped in recession or depression--and argued that govern
Can an irrational universe produce rationality?

By Guest andrew,
Objectivism rejects the supernatural. However this does pose a contradiction:
The supernatural stance explains how rationality can exist: if the universe has been "designed" then it must have a "designer" and therefore can be expected to perform along rational lines.
If the universe has not been "designed" then it must be the result of an irrational accident. Therefore how can we expect an irrational universe to produce rationality?
If our minds are irrational collections of at
Value Judgements

By TheCerebro,
When you first meet a person, how do you rationally access their value?
Under what circumstances would you help a person who was poor or ill and unable to help themselves?
Role of Government

By Prometheus,
A friend of mine, when we were discussing the role of a government, argued that the government has some form of basic social resposibility, like that of providing primary education to children.
So i'd like to pose your'll the question of what exactly is the role of a government in a capitalist society. Does it have any form of social responsibility?
Could someone also point me in the direction of how to learn more about capitalism, right from scratch. An explanation of it's principles
Workplace safety regulations

By Apprentice,
Can anyone point me to a thread discussing government involvement in regulating safety in private businesses? I haven't been able to find quite what I'm looking for yet and am not sure if it's been discussed. I'm in an argument with someone over this and need to solidify my position a bit.
Thank you--sorry if this request is in the wrong place!
