Objectivism Is The Everyman's Philosophy
In the universe, what you see is what you get,
figuring it out for yourself is the way to happiness,
and each person's independence is respected by all
-
Rand's Philosophy in Her Own Words
- "Metaphysics: Objective Reality" "Nature, to be commanded, must be obeyed/Wishing won’t make it so." "The universe exists independent of consciousness"
- "Epistemology: Reason" "You can’t eat your cake and have it, too." "Thinking is man’s only basic virtue"
- "Ethics: Self-interest" "Man is an end in himself." "Man must act for his own rational self-interest" "The purpose of morality is to teach you[...] to enjoy yourself and live"
- "Politics: Capitalism" "Give me liberty or give me death." "If life on earth is [a man's] purpose, he has a right to live as a rational being"

Objectivism and the Environment
By Simmons,
I have several questions about objectivism and the environment. It would seem from the admittedly somewhat limited literature I have read regarding objectivism and the environment that objectivists regard environmentalism as nonrational and "antiman". Do objectivists lump all environmentalist postitions in the same boat? What do objectivists say should be done if a capitalist system results in poor environmental conditions for people? As an example of the above, say a landowner pollutes a
Bend It Like Beckham
By AshRyan,
I don't know if you all have seen Bend It Like Beckham or not yet--I believe it opened quite a while ago in the major markets (L.A., New York, Chicago), but it just recently opened in a few theaters here--but if you haven't, go see it! Overall, it's a very good movie, I found it quite enjoyable. It deals with themes of cross-cultural misunderstanding (like My Big Fat Greek Wedding), but does so in a way that emphasizes individual happiness, and the role of the individual in valuing (like Choco

Atlasphere Interview: Chef Charlie Trotter
By schwartzandrew,
Hello all,
I'm pleased to announce that the Atlasphere has just published an interview with world-renowned chef -- and exemplary capitalist -- Charlie Trotter.
Trotter is a tour-de-force of the cooking world. In this interview he discusses his discovery of Ayn Rand at an early age, his unique approach to cooking and to business, and his dogged pursuit of excellence in his work.
You can read the interview at the Atlasphere:

Atlas Shrugged sales
By Tom Rexton,
I've recently looked at Atlas Shrugged's sales rank in amazon.com--which I have done every three weeks for the past four months--and it seems that book sales continuously increase. Right now, out of all books sold at amazon.com, it ranks at #388--which is not bad for book published 46 years ago. It is especially high in Argentina (12th best seller there!--a position it has maintained more or less since I started monitoring it). It'll probably rise even higher in both countries as the holidays

Aristotle on the Intellect
By danielshrugged,
Intellect: Creator of All, Receiver of All
Suppose a stranger were to approach you and say, "In my left hand, I hold something which can become all things. In my right, I hold something which can create all things." You might suppose him to be a magician-or mad. Yet this is what Aristotle seems to say regarding the intellect in On the Soul. Is the intellect magical? Is Aristotle mad? Or has he a reasonable theory with a reasonable explanation? If so, let us proceed to explain just what the
RationalBeing's Introduction. Hello.
By RationalBeing,
Hello all. I'm an fairly objectivist type business man living in Austin Texas. I run my own corporation which does a variety of things, namely webdesign and programming. I am also writing my first novel involving politics, economics, statism and individualism.
I am not a true Objectivist (big O) however I find Rand's work uplifting and it brings me joy. Unfortunately I find the tone of most of most of her work negative, but then again, its difficult to criticize her for this - based o
Printing Threads
By DAC,
Would it be possible to include a 'printer friendly' link at the bottom of a thread that allowed you to print all the pages in a thread in a 'printer friendly' format. Currently, you have to go to each page and print. I have seen this done on other forums...
Nevermind, I just saw the 'Print this topic' option...
