  6. Ultimately my point with this post is to not fear starvation 'cause such a fear will rob you from utilising opportunies in your life. Some bodybuilders who buy into a six-meals-a-day diet (a diet that I really do NOT advise) get into a state if they miss a meal - to a point of hysteria. Really unhealthy I think and really not necessary to let your diet control you in such a way. I think if you were really starving and had to steal food to survive you will not worry about ethics.
  7. Hello All, Here is a qoute from a post that really had me smiling: "My question is, if I have to steal bread to survive, should I instead starve to death to respect someone else's property? I don't care about the practical likelihood of this scenario. This is purely hypothetical and I'm looking for a yes or no answer." Althought he DOES say here that he does not care about the practical likelihood of this scenario, it is a very interesting example for me at least. The thing is most people in first world countries and even wealthier developing countries will find it very hard to starve to death. If a person of normal weight (and today it seams like overweight is the norm) would have to loose his/her job and have no access to food it will take that person at least a month and a half of not touching a single piece of food to be in danger of going into starvation mode. That is without touching a single piece of food or anything with contains calories e.g. milk. If you were severly underweight to start with that would be different of course but most people in the first world countries are not. There seems to be an irrational fear of starvation in some people a "What if someday I loose everything and end of starving in the street." Now there are some countries where people are starving but I am CLEARLY not talking about people in these countries which who suffer from poverty. Your body is able to survive with a very little amount of calaries. It is something that we developed through evolution. It is a very interesting exercise to go on a fast. Of course there are some nutritionalists that would faint by me ever mentioning such an evil thing but I am not interested in their financial interests. If you found yourself in the USA, Europe or even in SA and where in the unfortunate sition of not having food. I am sure that you will be able to beg some food from somewhere before you would ever need to steel food to survive. Just thought this would be interesting to share. Regards, Andre I is a very intere

  14. Hello, I would like to suggest going to a Toastmasters Club. If you find the correct club it feels like you are arriving home. At TM you will find a lot of intellectuals willing to discuss ideas. Reading The Fountainhead Howard Roark seems to more like an introvert than an extrovert. Howard Roark also does not seem to try and persuade people who don't want to be persuaded of valid points. Persuading people often is not about having a valid argument but being able to sell your ideas. Sorry about pushing TM but their you will learn how to do this. Hope that this helps. Keep Well, Andre

  17. I totally agree with you RationalBiker. My own personal experience is that I could only really take responsibility for my own life when I let go of a concept called god/higher power. As long as I put my trust in god I could always blame him if I messed up. As soon as I took responsibility for my life I could take the credit when I did things right and build up my self esteem.

This Is why I believe in fasting. Fasting it they "master key" to self control. It helps you to teach your rational brain to have control over your emotional brain.

  22. Hello All, Thank you for all the kind words. I must say I am really glad that I was wrong. I am really relieved since I like my impressions on objectivism. I firt came to know about Ayn Rand through the work of Mike Mentzer. He is one amazing guy. I have already downloaded the podcasts that you have mentioned and cant wait to listen to it. Here is one of the articles (and there were some others) that I have looked at that made me think gave me my impression: http://rationalargumentator.com/issue28/SOLO1.html I could look up others if they want. Thank you once again I am really excited about Ayn Rands work. Andre
  23. Hello All, I am a gay man that has started getting interested in objectivism. Unfortunately I have come to realize that objectivism and being gay does not really mix well. Although most of the logical/rational arugments that I can find (on the internet) cannot prove anything wrong with homosexuality, I have come to realize that most Objectivists (apart from a few exceptions) do not really keep logical beliefs about homosexuality. Most of them are happy to let their personal biases rule over their own reason. Homosexuality as I see it is a product of bother nature AND nurture. I find that this view is the best fit whith what we know about homosexuality today. I feel dissappointed since I thought this would be a philosophy that I could really accept as an athiest. While on facebook I found some "gay objectivists" most of them seem to have a problem with their own sexuality. One very outspoken "gay objectivist" couple I found seemed very suspicious i.e. I do not think they are really gay or even a couple - there were just to many inconsistencies. I wonder what their agenda are. I also find it confusioning that most objectivists find Ayn Rand's support of capitalism and limited government more important than her views against religion. I have even found some "christian objectivists" on-online. Please can somebody tell me how that can make any sense at all? Is objectivist just another word for conservative (in the closet christians)? Perhaps somebody can put some light on this for me. Regards, Andre
