    Dear fellow Patriot,

    Nearly 1 million American firearms.

Banned by a stroke of Barack Obama’s pen.

In a move unprecedented in American history, the Obama Administration quietly banned the re-importation of nearly 600,000 American made M1 Carbine rifles.

And I've just discovered Obama may be blocking as many as 300,000 1911 Colts too!

That's nearly one million pieces of American history denied to the American people.

The M1 rifle, developed in the late 1930’s, carried the United States through World War II, seeing action in every major battle.

General Patton at the time called the M1 “the greatest battle implement ever devised.”

The rifle is largely credited with giving American soldiers the advantage and securing victory for the allies.

During the Korean War, nearly one million of these rifles were brought to South Korea and loaned to the South Korean government afterward.

Now, South Korea wants to give American gun collectors the chance to get their hands on this unique piece of history.

A piece of American history that Barack Obama would like to see go down the memory hole.

That’s why I want as many Americans as possible to put themselves on record opposing this gun ban by signing the Official Firearms Freedom Survey the National Association for Gun Rights has prepared for you.

    Will you please join me?

    M1_Rand_Clicker.jpg

After World War II, the United States government sent millions of these rifles overseas to our allies and friends.

    That includes 950,000 M1 Garands, 1.2 million M1 Carbines, and 300,000 1911 Pistols.

Over the past 50 years, many of the countries we lent them to returned them to America to be bought and sold by firearms collectors.

    This is nothing new.

Make no mistake; these firearms were made in America, by Americans, for Americans, to defend freedom on foreign shores.

As a part of our history, they are greatly sought after by American shooters and collectors.

But according to Hillary Clinton’s State Department there is a danger they might “fall into the wrong hands.”

That they might, possibly, one day be used in a crime.

No mention of the hundreds of thousands of gun owners deprived of the opportunity to own an integral part of American history.

The State Department’s outrageous claims are nothing more than a thinly veiled ploy to distract from the real issue:

President Obama’s deep-seated hatred for gun rights.

While his gun-grabbing base is giddy with praise at this back-door gun ban, law-abiding citizens across the United States are crying foul.

Let me be clear: at no time in U.S. history has the ownership of these firearms -- or any part of these firearms -- been illegal, restricted or banned.

Americans have collected World War II M1 rifles for decades.

Now they are sold through the Civilian Marksmanship Program.

You can even purchase a newly manufactured model from Springfield Armory that was made just a month or two ago.

And the M1’s caliber or capacity is no more dangerous than the millions of modern firearms owned by Americans across the country today.

As you can see, there is absolutely no justification for this unconstitutional gun ban.

    M1_Rand_Clicker.jpg

This is just one of a series of anti-gun schemes from the Obama Administration:

    ***
A new so-called “Assault Weapons Ban
    " -- targeting ALL semi-automatic rifles and shotguns -- which, unlike the Clinton ban, would NEVER expire;

    ***
An outright BAN on “high capacity” magazines
    -- banning the sale and manufacture of magazines holding more than just a handful of rounds;

    ***
    A National Concealed Carry “Standard
    ” -- designed to make it even more difficult for law-abiding citizens to carry a gun to protect themselves and their families from assault;

    ***
Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s “Catch-All Gun Control Scheme
” -- to create a national “cannot buy registry,” allowing citizens to be stripped of their Second Amendment rights on a Justice Department whim, effectively banning all private gun sales.

That’s why it is essential that Americans like you and I take a stand against the M1 Carbine and 1911 gun ban!

It has been common practice since the end of World War II to re-import these American made rifles from the foreign allies they were lent to during the war.

But the Obama Administration departs radically from the American tradition.

In fact, on top of banning American citizens from owning these historic firearms, Obama’s State Department is arranging for the destruction of nearly one million of them -- ironically, at a time of ballooning federal deficits.

    It’s an outrage!

These firearms -- truly pieces of American history -- rightly belong in the hands of U.S. citizens.

That’s why I was glad to hear that the National Association for Gun Rights is helping fight this power grab in the U.S. Senate.

Do you believe the U.S. Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the Second Amendment are the supreme law of the land?

Do you believe that President Obama banning the re-importation of these historic firearms is an unprecedented and unconstitutional power grab?

Do you support Congress forcing President Obama to reverse his ban and save these American made firearms from destruction?

If you said “Yes” to these questions, please sign the Firearms Freedom Survey the National Association for Gun Rights has prepared for you.

Your survey will put you squarely on the record AGAINST Barack Obama’s Gun Ban.

    M1_Rand_Clicker.jpg

And along with your signed survey, I hope you’ll send a generous contribution of $250, $100, $50 or even just $35 to help finance this battle.

With your generous contribution, the National Association for Gun Rights will continue contacting Second Amendment supporters to turn up the heat on targeted U.S. Senators.

Not only that, but they’re preparing a massive program to launch that is designed to force President Obama to reverse this ban.

Direct mail. Phones. E-mail. Blogs. Guest editorials. Press conferences. Hard-hitting internet, newspaper, radio and even TV ads if funding permits. The whole nine yards.

Of course, a program of this scale is only possible if the National Association for Gun Rights can raise the money.

    But that’s not easy.

So please put yourself on record AGAINST Barack Obama’s Rifle Ban by signing NAGR’s Firearms Freedom Survey.

But along with your survey, please agree to make a generous contribution of $250, $100, $50 or even just $35.

And every dollar counts in this fight, so even if you can only chip in $10 or $20, your help will still make a difference.

Thank you in advance for your time and money devoted to defending our Second Amendment rights.

  6. I want to take a moment to point out - (and if you find it hard to find people to admire today, check these out) - how many truly sublime young, beautiful, talented, romantic type women singer-songwriters there are in the world today. We must admire their modern culture. Feast your eyes on these gorgeous, talented young ladies. That most of these young ladies write most or some of their songs and are all below the age of 25 makes them all the more amazing:

Demi Lovato performing "Skyscraper" (talk about right up Ayn Rand's alley!):

    Taylor Swift performing Love Story:

We are lucky to be alive while these girls are performing. Miraculous!

    More below:

  7. WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—The international terror group known as Al Qaeda announced its dissolution today, saying that “our mission of destroying the American economy is now in the capable hands of the U.S. Congress.”

In an official statement published on the group’s website, the current leader of Al Qaeda said that Congress’s conduct during the so-called “fiscal-cliff” showdown convinced the terrorists that they had been outdone.

“We’ve been working overtime trying to come up with ways to terrorize the American people and wreck their economy,” said the statement from Al Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri. “But even we couldn’t come up with something like this.”

Mr. al-Zawhiri said that the idea of holding the entire nation hostage with a clock ticking down to the end of the year “is completely insane and worthy of a Bond villain.”

“As terrorists, every now and then you have to step back and admire when someone else has beaten you at your own game,” he said. “This is one of those times.”

The Al Qaeda leader was fulsome in his praise for congressional leaders, saying, “We have made many scary videos in our time but none of them were as terrifying as Mitch McConnell.”

As for the future of Al Qaeda, the statement said that it would no longer be a terror network but would become “more of a social network,” offering reviews of new music, movies and video games.

In its first movie review, Al Qaeda gave the film “Zero Dark Thirty” two thumbs down.

  8. Wait a minute - I would like to know - who else besides me waited until after the credits to see if there was additional footage? Ever since X Men The Last Stand I do that, and it is paying off more and more. :)

And who else liked that he challenged God to give him a sign, and then nothing happens? "Damn faith! Earn it!" That is a pretty strong anti-religion statement.

  9. Yes, and about how completely impotent that will is in the face of existence.

    • they spend the entire movie fighting for their lives, only to get slowly picked off, one by one.
    • instead of finding shelter or encountering humans, they end up at the source of all of their deaths, precisely what they were trying to get away from the entire time, thus cementing their fate.
    • the main character, in the end, concludes that nothing really matters but "the fight" to stay alive, without any reference to values, purpose, goals or anything remotely connected to the mind.
    • but the movie tells us that even that doesn't matter, because they all die in the end.
    • metaphysical importance is ascribed to death (the poem is but one reference). Death is viewed as a valid goal. (Similarly to Mr. Smith saying "the purpose of life is to die".)
    • I don't mean 'self-sacrifice' in the usual sense of giving up a bigger value for a lesser value, or even giving up life for some prescribed "noble" goal (e.g. like Christ), that's why I gave it a different term. I mean it in the worst possible sense: shutting down the mind, leaving it all to automatized materialistic self-sustaining action, and hoping for an early death. That's what his dad was about, it's what the poem was about, it's what the Communists tried to achieve in man (destruction of the ego), and it's nihilism.

PPW - did you see the last scene of the movie, which comes after the end credits? There is no indication that Ottway's character dies. That is left open; and frankly, with a knife electric taped to one hand and 3 glass bottles as brass knuckles taped to the other, I gave that wolf about zero chances out of 10 to beat Ottway. Ottway no doubt smacked that Alpha wolf down and then smoked him. See the IMDb trivia page, and note - after the end credits - you can hear Ottway's breathing AND the wolf, who is obviously dying, so, with respect, I think you stand corrected.

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1601913/trivia

Go Ottway! Go human beings! "That's why we're at the top of the food chain!" Boo-ya! :)

I bet he made that wolf into a wolfburger sandwich.

  10. It's fiercely nihilist if anything. As one IMDb poster summed up quite brilliantly when discussing the meaning of the title:

"Yeah, Lian Neeson wears a grey sweater throughout the movie, and the color is washed out of most of the photography in post production. There's also a lot of shots of grey indistinct exteriors, most of the men have either salt-and-pepper hair or ice in their hair that makes it look grey, and there's the scene where Ottway is yelling at God, and he stares up into the grey, cloudy sky.

It's pretty clear that "The Grey" is actually a reference to both the existential and emotional condition of man as he confronts death, and to the natural world's indifferent disposition toward humanity, and to the uncertainty and indistinctness associated with death. It's a loaded title.

The main wolves in the movie don't even look like grey wolves."

The poem supposed to convey the central theme of the movie

    "Once more into the fray,

Into the last good fight I'll ever know,

Live and die on this day,

Live and die on this day."

is about willful, deliberate self-annulment, as an end in itself. Self-sacrifice "Kantian style".

There is nothing about self-sacrifice in this movie, explicitly or implicitly, whatsoever. It is about man's will to survive and live.

  11. I saw the film last night (a special Christmas Eve showing) and it is nothing short of magnificent. It is so good, in fact, that it would take an hour or two to write a full report. Perhaps the best way to convey how wonderful the film is would be to offer a few telling quotes from Kenneth Turan’s favorable review in the Los Angeles Times:

That last comment is Turan's cleverly obscured escape clause. He seems to be going out of his way to apologize for having liked the film so much, which tells you how thankful we should be that it’s a British production. Hollywood would never have the courage to make a film like this. Turan also throws in pejoratives such as ‘melodramatic’ and ‘over-the-top’ to describe the production, then ends this way:

In other words, Turan liked the film in spite of himself and his instinctive Hollywood cynicism and hatred for human greatness.

The entire cast is superb, including Hugh Jackman as Jean Valjean and Russell Crowe as Javert. You will never see a scene in a movie more powerful than Anne Hathaway singing “I Dreamed A Dream.” If she does not win an Academy Award for that one scene, there is no justice in this world.

One key difference between Hugo’s story and the Liam Neeson film is that Marius is depicted as the leader of the insurrection, rather than Enjolras. Of course, the musical also makes some changes: Enjolras is executed rather than being shot at the barricades. But his heroism as the implacable leader is left intact and even underscored. Eponine also has a minimal role in the earlier film version. She is given a much more prominent role in the musical and in the new film, which again is more faithful to the book.

    Well said.
