  1. Hold 'em if fun but I only play it on my cellphone...because I don't like to get into betting real money and occasionally I catch it on tv.
  2. Good point Blinky, but then again the family is obviously not trained to deal with a mentally unhealthy person either. She is also not cooperating to go to help sessions, so the problem will only get worse until they find some form of professional help.
  3. If she makes threats to your family then it becomes a legal issue and you can make a police report about it, after that you can take that to a mental institution and they will keep her there and study her until they determine if she is safe to live with your family. If it's not that serious then your mom needs to take control of the situation and convince her to take therapy sessions. I know you're saying she refuses to but it is possible to convince these people, believe me I've seen it done. Tell your mom to not give into her whims. She may throw a fit but eventually she'll get the idea that her parent is not falling for it.
  4. Thank you. Indeed the part I was writing of is the "under god" part.
  5. Since as of February 2006 I am eligible to become a U.S. citizen, I wanted to inquire what was Ayn Rand's oath of allegiance when she was naturalized. If anyone has a source they could link to or a book where this information is available please post it here. There may be a part to omit in my oath as the guide to naturalization states that I have the right to do so.
  6. If you're into BSD this is a great guide http://www.bsdguides.org/guides/freebsd/webserver/
  7. I will keep that in mind. Yes you are right. I am sure there are plenty of other names. I'll put it on the list
  8. I have the opportunity to change my name next year due to some paper work that gives me that option. I am currently named after a zealot communist that his name is not even worth of mention. Yet despite this bad influence from my family I am an objectivist. I will also soon close a business-working a way to get out of the contract-that I am a member of, due to unfair practices that do not coincide with my values. So I was thinking of perhaps changing my name to Hugh Akston or something different from the name that I have. Ayn Rand's work has changed my life and I am not about to give my rebirth up, for some irrational guilt. What do you think?
  9. The older objectivist is less likely to use forums and is more concerned with work and interpersonal relationships in their work and household.
  10. I actually like to watch it because of the beginning. Watching a writer complete a book is something that I want to do someday. Then comes the rest of the story which is also very compelling.
  11. Ha I'm glad I didn't get that far as a kid then. I read most of them but never got to where Aslan died. They were interesting to read as a kid but I did not pick up on the religious agenda. Now they are a vague a recollection of images in the back of my mind.

    Handedness

I like to use both. I always thought, "why waste a perfectly good left hand"
  13. It came to my attention after watching a documentary, that the city of Atlantis aka Helike was found in 2001. Interestingly enough one of the first things they found was a coin with Apollo on one side and a dove on the other. See: http://www.helike.org/index.shtml
  14. My father's interest in gold...including gold bullions and making an event around watching Greenspan's appearances started my interest. Soon after I picked up an old copy of the Anthem, which I remember as "The Hymn" for some reason.
  15. So what was the reason behind the pope's stand? The pope linked communism with atheism, in order to discredit atheism.
  16. How many of you did actually get here via google ads? Personally I searched for forums about objectivism.
  17. I completely agree. I think that contributing our thoughts truly expands objectivism beyond the work that Ayn Rand has already acomplished. Published works would be great, but I have also heard of online books where writers add content to it, provided they use peer-reviews. Something like http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/C573 shows what it could be like. Due to changes in management the site is not quite what it used to be, but the principles that it was originally built under are still solid.
  18. I think I should be discussing the original instead of the new one, but I have not seen the original as of yet. I assure you that I will.
  19. wow this brings back memories http://sip.clarku.edu/tutorials/True_BASIC.html I think I'm going to whip out my true basic book.
  20. you may want to try http://www.truebasic.com/demo.asp the bronze demo. It's a compiler for the True Basic language. It will teach you the basic concepts of Let, Print, End, Run Input, line input Constants, Variables, string, numeric formulas, math operators For-Next, Do-While If-Then, If-Then-Else data read Arrays Subroutines, Functions and the rest. Then search google for exercises, believe me it should make a difference spending a couple of days. The demo gives you 15 minutes everytime you run it. So basically save your progress ever 15 mins and then open it again. If you like it ofcourse, then you may want to buy it.
  21. I had two right guesses, but the rest were wrong, I guess my first guess was wrong. I will attempt this again later when I have more time.
