  1. Integrity is the theme, not the indestructablility of the good. And I don't think that it matters if thats what the writers and producers were consciously pursueing, it is what they show. He destroyed the guys truck because the guy was evil and it was within his right to search every last corner from drugs since the guy has some on him. I'm sorry that you find the representation of integrity dull.
  2. Finding You. It was like digging for gold and finding the first tiny speck; The excitement, the joy, the uncontainable pleasure of searching, of knowing that something great is waiting to be discovered.
  3. Reich is a nut.. read about his orgone box made of layers wood and i think copper that he used to trap sexual energy.
  4. No, every time he does this the people end up quitting anyways, and taking a lot of dealers with them. It has caused us to lose nearly the whole office a couple of times. These people usually have a thousand good reasons why they didn't make sales. and when they get fired he lets them come back again and again.
  5. My supervisor is a great businessman. He is effecient, decisive, a good leader, and great money manager. He always acts in the interest of the company except in one respect, which I can not figure out. He always seems to give the worst people in our organization the most "chances." I dont think that is the right word but i cant think of the one that is. An example is that there is a manager who does drugs, and he leads other dealers into doing drugs and he has been caught with drugs in a company vehicle, but the boss just over looks it. There is another who was caught doing drugs and nothing happened. there is a manager that was sleeping with dealers and buying the alcohol and nothing happened. The worst part is that he doesn't seem to care if the good ones stay or quit. Ive told him out the bad ideas running out the good, but he contunes to do it. What do you think causes this to happen?
  6. Thanks! I'm not sure when it will be ready.. right now I am gathering writers and really learning the layout of the site builder.. I am accepting submissions.. feel free to send them to [email protected] for an overview of the magazines plans and goals, "Free Thinker",.. you can find them in the trash can of this forum ;-)
  7. I agree about the government, but what i was pointing out was what happens to an economy when there is no actual production...(the artist chose to represent the towns economy with these types of business instead of factories and retail shops) it declines and stagnates and you get an abundance of second hand shops, auto repair centers.. nothing that is produced, just redone. And i didn't say it should be permitted, I was just noting what it signified for a town
  8. Not necessarily, but the issue is that the shop was shown as representing the towns industry. As presented (in the absence of other business except those named) it represents the decadence of the culture.
  9. The subject of “Walking Tall” is the role of integrity in the success of good. The theme of the movie is the necessity of integrity to the success of good. The film is based on the premise that any compromise between good and evil only benefits evil. The movie beings when Chris Vaughn (The Rock) returns to his hometown only to discover that it has collapsed into moral, and sequentially, existential disrepair. The town is presented as being filled with pawn shops, cash advance depot’s, adult novelty shops and other insignia of a declining economy. The other buildings are vacant including the towns only industry; the lumber mill. At the heart of the decay is a casino that covers for a drug running operation. The population is represented by drug addicts, drunks, compulsive gamblers, prostitutes and dirty unattended children. At the heart of this decay is casino owner Jay Hamilton, who holds the town in thrall with the help of corrupt cops and a gang of thugs. One virtue, integrity, is what all the other good characters lack and that is what leaves them defenseless to the powers of evil. Deni (Ashley Scott) expresses the prevalent compromising attitude “The rent has to be paid,” meaning moral principles have to be sacrificed for the range of the moment. Vaughn’s unwillingness to compromise enables him to not be deterred in his fight for truth and justice. Displaying the power of integrity to the right principles, Vaughn ultimately defeats Hamilton and closes the casino, replacing it with the towns engine of production; the lumber mill. “Walking Tall” demonstrates the indispensability of the recognition of moral right and of integrity to it. I highly recommend this film to anyone who believes in moral certainty, the indestructablity of the good, and above all, integrity.
  10. David, A post of mine was deleted without me being notified or any reason at all given. Yes, I realize the post was about my website, but the that is why I posted it in the forum that says "Share products of your mind, from poems, short stories, art, music, to web designs, business deals, graduations, etc. Any pride-giving product of your mind." The deleted post was title "the objective review."
  11. I answered an ad looking for entry levels salespeople. They will give the opportunity to pretty much anyone as long as you are willing to work hard. here is my favorite part: http://kirby.com/story14.shtml "Today, we ship the Kirby Home Care System to Distributors in over 60 countries around the world. And with each unit that leaves our dock, we include a little bit of the American spirit for free enterprise." YEAHYA!

  13. Saturday, I was promoted by my Factory Distributor to the position of Distributor Trainee. I will be moving into my own office June 1st in Van Buren. The next level is Factory Distributor, where i will be able to buy the machines from the factory, instead of through the distributor. I spent the last year and a half learning to make cold calls door to door, demonstrate the kirby home maintanence system, manage a crew of 2-4 people, recruit, train new dealers, and close sales. Here is the company I work for: www.kirby.com.
  14. Thank you for your reply, Ken. One more question: Why is argument from ancedote invalid, logically?
  15. Ayn Rand's philosophy need no "interperating." The idea that a reader might "interpret" her writings was anathema -- so she worked and reworked them slavishly. We reap the reward of the beautiful clarity she has left as her legacy. She always said exactly what she meant in detail and with logical precision.
  16. recently i was having a debate with an old friend of mine about government programs like welfare, and she said "well, i can't say anything against government programs because my mom was really poor and we wouldn't have had anywhere to live or anything to eat if it hadn't been for the government" I really didn't know what to say to this except, "well maybe your mom would have had enough money if the government did tax 25% from each check.." how could this argument be classified, and what is the proper response?
  17. anyone who has read "On the Progression of Peoples" and "Of Human Life", and Ayn Rands responses to them both should know why the pope was evil.
  18. I never said that I don't like the book, in fact I said that I enjoyed it very much, I was just disappointed to see that only two of the articles were by Miss Rand. Its not being "nitpicky" or "complaining just to complain" to ask why the book claims Ayn Rand as the author.
  19. I'm curious why this book is said to be authored by Ayn Rand when only 2 of the articles are by her. There are certainly more articles in it by Dr. Peikoff, why is not said to be written by him. When I saw that it was written by Ayn Rand, I ordered it from the bookstore, but was very disappointed to see that only two of the articles were by her. It is still a good book, and i especially like the title article, but i think it is more than a little misleading. Does anyone know why "they" decided to claim that Ayn Rand was the author of the book?
  20. This same fellow once told me that " 'a is a' NOT." I think he is a big fan of quantum mechanics, and uses that as a basis to try to discredit Objectivism, especially objectivist metaphysics. He is an exObjectivist turned Satanist. Here is another of his articles: http://churchofsatan.com/Pages/SatObj.html where he compares and contrasts Satanism and Objectivism.
  21. This is by a "satanic magister." The conversation was not public so their name will not be disclosed. That is also why the entire article is reposted, instead of a link. ******************** For some time I have suggested that I usually do not bother with any major efforts to influence large groups of people to make changes. I usually have advocated that at the very least a Satanist would be wise to solve his own problems first through direct personal action rather than turn to groups to do it for him. The herd, of course, prefers to shepherd you into joining a group, supporting a cause, and otherwise trying to change the minds of others to (commonly) legislate the solutions to a problem. And this is the heart of political efforts – to cause people to band together and unite their efforts to make mass changes. I have argued that it is illusory to believe that this is actually a viable way to get things changed and I realize this flies in the face of the entire governmental propaganda efforts of not years or decades but centuries. The heart of my argument is that the political effort to make mass change relies upon the belief that reason and self interest will cause people to change their minds and therefore their actions. I disagree. I honestly do not think that most human beings are conscious, possess free will and are anything other than automaton robots that can be predicted in terms of what they will do with close to 100% accuracy as one would expect with any machine once you are familiar with the make up of the machine. As one example I have attached a recent chart of what is known as the Commitment of Traders report on futures contracts for the S&P 500, also known as the COT report. The COT report is mandated by the SEC to be published on the internet every Friday (except for holidays). It summarizes all of the money being placed on futures for the stock market as a whole (the SP500 is one of the largest indexes of the stock market). On this chart you will see three groups represented. The Commercials (the dark burgandy bars) are the multi-billion dollar companies that are buying futures contracts to hedge against their massive positions in the stock market. You might say that the Commercials are the stock market and when they move it has an effect similar to that of a whale in a swimming pool affecting the water. The Large Speculators (the lgiht blue bars) are invested with millions of dollars and people like George Soros would fit into their group. The Small Speculators (the yellow bars) are the herd. These are all the other people trying to make money in the futures for the stock market. Now the chart I have attached is only covering a few months as each date represents a weekly report but you can go back and look over the last 18+ years and see the same thing. What do you notice? Look at how wrong the herd is over and over again. Look how often they are positioned opposite to the “smart money” (the Commercials). Doesn’t this strike you as interesting? It is one of the most beautiful examples of mindless preprogrammed manipulation I am aware of in a mass setting. The herd is not sometimes wrong. It is consistently wrong. Just like a machine that is set to act in a predetermined way. And yet every single one of those Small Speculators has “conscious” reasons for why they are investing the way they do. The real reason they invest the way they do and can be wrong consistently is, I would suggest, because they are not conscious and they are not acting on the basis of reason or free will. It is because they are unconscious machines that have to react to the manipulations of the Commercials. They have no choice. These are the groups you are trying to change. Just a thought worthy of your consideration. *************************** This from a philosophy that claims to have Ayn Rand as an influence and claims to be the only defenders of individualism and reason. It doesn't take much to understand that if the true advocates of reason do not dismiss these claims, the above is going to be taken by those influenced by the times intellectuals as the possition of reason. This is why I seriously think that these claims need to be refuted.
  22. If you count Dagny as being from Galts Gulch, she killed someone, when she and the others went to free Galt.
  23. "Reality is subjective in a sense that we have to agree upon what exists." Technically, no one has to necessarily agree on what exists. An example is a color-blind person and a non-color blind person. The two perceive different attributes, but that does not change the attributes themselves. I think what dear ol dad was getting at is: how do you know that what you perceive is what actually is? The answer that most would choose is: by comparing it to the experiance of others. The correct answer would be by comparing it to the rest of a properly (rationally) validated body of knowledge. "I mean, it seems that something would have to exist before the agreement could occur (i.e. existence presupposes the possibility of communication)--and thus the existent would be independent of consciousness....but that's all I got." This is correct. "Possibly it's important to not think of communication and knowledge as synonymous?" This is correct. I hope this helps.
