  1. Has anyone read the book about objectivism being a religion by Albert Ellis?
  2. What is the proof of the concept "tabula rasa?" Is it discussed at length by an Objectivist intellectual? When arguing and this point comes up i usually get the objection: "well babies hold their breath when put under water, and that means they have innate knowledge."
  3. That is between the poster and the moderator who deleted the post. Since the moderator is no long here, I guess all you can do is speculate. Seriously though, I deleted it because it was inappropriate and hateful. I deleted six days after I posted it because thats how long it took me to get my attention back to it with the help of BL.
  4. As a moderator I deleted my own post, and yes, I did inform myself via PM of that action.
  5. "When a business has no competitor’s because of government action it becomes a monopoly." This is the monopoly that i was refering to.
  6. I wasn't trying to say anything about marriage, specifically. The theme of the article was the role of competition in relationships. I mean that if a relationship is closed to competition, regardless of the value the individuals provide to each other, or the value others could provide, the effects of a monopoly set it: poorer service, inferior products, and higher prices than could normally be found on an open market. An example of the correct way to maintain a relationship in which competition is guiding factor is the case of Dagny, Rearden and Galt. Dagny left Rearden (who was a great person) for Galt (who was even better). An example of the condition I was refering to (which can be witnessed with newlyweds vs. one or two year marriages or relationships) would be where Dagny stays with Rearden, even though she would rather have Galt. You can imagine what effect this would have on a relationship, but it happens all the time in the name of loyalty or committment or just plain laziness. Like I said the article is a rough draft, and I realize now that i presented it wrongly. It comes off as a "this is how life is supposed to be," instead of "this is how it can go wrong under these conditions" article. I do apreciate the comments, they have helped clarify the issue.
  7. Thanks you for supplying the quote, plaintext. Could someone please explain why a "public anatomical display" undermines or contradicts the concept "important" in this context?
  8. Ayn Rand made a statement about pornography in "Philosophy: Who Needs It?" In the chapter "Censorship: Local and Express." I can not find my copy right now, but i do recall that she called pornography "disgusting." Can anyone look up the exact statement?
  9. This is what i was getting at: That everything is open to competition, not that competition is an end in itself. The point was that a relationship requires constant effort to maintain it, or else someone who does put out the effort, will. Or if both people lack any motivation at all, they will both be miserable. That being said, i did mean that what i wrote was the "idea" situation, or how relationships are supposed to work, its just how i have seen it happen.
  10. Right, you can judge my whole life from a feeling that i had one day. again you are making generalizations without really proving anything, like saying "it reads like a ...blahblahblah."
  11. What about drinking? Obviously i do know i gave you access to my online diary, after all I posted the link to it here. And i don't find anything depressing about it at all. So if you want to do something besides make vague generalizations about my social life, feel free.
  12. If you will have noticed I haven't done anything in the moderation sector since "the scandal," and don't plan to, until i speak with david, so again If i was just trying to cause problems why wouldn't I just ban everyone of you and worse, delete all the posts on the forum, making them lost forever? again is that an issue which is going to be over looked here?
  13. btw at a glance i would have deleted these posts too if i had more time: http://forum.ObjectivismOnline.com/index.p...674entry69674 http://forum.ObjectivismOnline.com/index.p...673entry69673 http://forum.ObjectivismOnline.com/index.p...421entry69421
  14. Actually no one told me to do anything, in fact the only PM i have gotten about this whole thing is from "Source" asking about the content of the last post i deleted.
  15. what i meant is "me" obviously i would not change my SN to something almost the same. I did not post as N1JamesHughes.
  16. technically, if you read the post, you will see that i was consulting mr speicher because i value his judgement and knowledge, on that particular topic.
  17. What PM's are you talkig about? I never had anything to do with "thesweetscience," and if i did, don't you think i would delete all of stevens posts? if you think i was just being disruptive, why didn't i just delete all the topics on all the forums, or ban all the members, because as a mod, i can do that. Are these facts you are willing to just ignore?
  18. What history is that Bowser? Are you refering to the few posts i have made on this forum or my entire life of which you know nothing about?
  19. Actually evading the question would have been if i had posted and not addressed it, but since i wasn't online and didn't post before you posted this, you seem way to eager.
  20. By the way, this isn't me, although it would be conveint for those on the forum that are taking this personally. Especially revealing is the fact they they are so quickly willing to believe it. edit to replace mean with me
  21. I read the rules, as was suggested by BL in a PM, then i went about reading threads that interested me. "Defending Ayn Rand" came up, I saw the offending posts, and took action, Thats all.
  22. Obviously, i do know what it means and can also recognize it when it is being used. Also obviously it wasn't rhetorical because i asked you twice and asked for an answer. And i don't know what your responce wouldbe, thus the motivation for the question. So are you going to answer or not Thoyd?
  23. Its just a question Thoyd, why are you acting scared and using the argument from intimidation? why not just say what else you can do. after all i didn't say that that was all that you could do, i just asked you what else YOU could do. So thanks for revealing YOURSELF.
