  1. I just wanted to say a quick thank you to all who replyed. I feel like I understand the issue better now then I did when I first posted! Thanks again!
  2. Ok, I am new to objectivism having just recently finished Atlas Shrugged (so please be kind! ) but I was wondering, to be an Objectivist do you have to be an atheist? Can you believe in some sort of higher power and still be an objectivist? I ask because my mother, who introduced me to Ayn Rand, is catholic and still considers herself an objectivist, yet Rand herself was an atheist along with most other objectivist.
  3. The worst movie I have ever seen would have to be Anti-Trust. It came out in 2001 and from what I remember it was about the evil leader of a big computer corporation spying on kids and then killing them. He would then use there ideas to make money. But then a college graduate gets hired at the company, figures out what is going on, defeats the evil CEO, and all computer ideas from that day on are free for everyone to use! At least that how I remember it. The entire point of the movie was to show how ever big business and CEOs are.
  4. I think your on to something here Nix. I remeber when I said the word "selfish" my friends gave me a look like I had grown a sencond head. But I also think that BurgessLau and the other are right, I have to focus on myself at this point and then move on to try to explain it to the peolpe around me. But I will have to try and speak in term they will understand. Lord knows that if 5 years ago someone told me being selfish was a good thing I would have thought they were crazy too.
  5. This college surival guild is great! Im going to be starting college in a few month and this will definitly be helpful to me. As for this Alturism site I must say I don't know how to express my feeling (there are no word strong enough) so I go with this:
  6. Thaks to all who replyed! It has really helped me sort out a few things.
  7. Hello! I am new to this forum and relatively new to Objectivism, recently I have tried to explain Objectivism to several friends of mine who either think that I am crazy, or they just seem to not want to talk about it. I was wondering if anyone knows of a good way to go about explaining it to people who have never read any of Ayn Rand's Books.
