  1. Which also makes me wonder...What do people think of the group Stomp? Stomp here
  2. My wife and I both have Arabs. A bit smaller than 16 hands (although mine is 15/1). Of course, I love the intelligence and personality of Arabs. My AIM name is Styles2281. Styles because most people struggle with pronouncing my last name and, in the military most people refer to each other by their last names. So instead of learning my name, people just started calling me "Styles." It stuck, and I use it for most of my sn's.
  3. Drummer/percussionist/musician here. HUGE Rush fan. All the albums, much memorabilia. I love Yes, King Crimson (Cat Food is my favorite song of theirs), Coheed and Cambria, Tool. I think the only my philosophy has been incorporated into my music is that I'm pushing for the music to be more complex and challenging, along with the lyrics (which I'd rather not be doing lyrics about love). I'm definitely inspired by Neil Peart's lyric writing. Man, he can put words together like no one else. Him and Paul Simon.
  4. I've always been a HUGE Paul Simon fan, and I've always loved the lyrics to Can't Run But (off of Rhythm of the saints.) I can’t run but I can walk much faster than this Can’t run but I can’t run but I can walk much faster than this Can’t run but A cooling system Burns out in the ukraine Trees and umbrellas Protect us from the new rain Armies of engineers To analyze the soil The food we contemplate The water that we boil I can’t run but I can walk much faster than this Can’t run but I can’t run but I can walk much faster than this Can’t run but Oo-we oo-we I had a dream about us In the bottles and the bones of the night I felt a pain in my shoulder blade Like a pencil point? a love bite? A couple was rubbing against us Rubbing and doing that new dance The man was wearing a jacket and jeans The woman was laughing in advance I can’t run but I can walk much faster than this Can’t run but I can’t run but I can walk much faster than this Can’t run but A winding river Gets wound around a heart. pull it Tighter and tighter Until the muddy waters part Down by the river bank A blues band arrives The music suffers The music business thrives I can’t run but I can walk much faster than this Can’t run but I can’t run but I can walk much faster than this Can’t run but
  5. I'm the same way. For those bashing African Drum music, you are clearly not a musician and cannot hear the intense and EXTREMELY hard polyrhythms going on. African music is very difficult and very well put together. You may not like it, but to call it "trash" is unsupported and insulting.
  6. Not a problem. I'm glad to see people liking them. I've yet to see them in concert, though, sometime (when I have time) I'd like to. Hey, maybe they'll need a drummer in the near future!
  7. As soon as MusicianMp3 activates my account, I'll post some stuff in here. Unfortunately, it's taken a lot longer than the 1-2 days that it said it would.
  8. I, too, have been addicted to the books. I just started book 6 last night. What I've liked about the books is that they've progressed with their audience (as evidenced by the poster who started reading them at 10 and is now 16) The first story was a well-written children's story. NOW, they are a regular fantasy novel about a young, special wizard. Many of the stories are dark even to the point of being scary. I thought the HP movies were as close to the books that the movies could get and the best adaption of a book since "The Lord of the Rings (though, pales in comparison)." Personally, I liked the third movie the best, but that may have just been the shot that Hermoine gave Draco. "Not good, BRILLIANT" And I enjoyed the dark style given to that particular movie, considering the way the following books will go.
  9. A Man who loves human life, selfish or not, would not easily live with it. They'll live with it because they have to, but like a soldier, those images haunt. And to know that you could save them or both is a nagging, eating doubt. While the choice he would have made may have been the right one, it doesn't make the other one less easy to swallow. To me, that is not even remotely valuing human life.
  10. We're "decent." We could be a lot better, but the main reason for that is that we are heavily understaffed, and there are just gaping holes in our instrumentation. At full strength we are 41 soldiers (40 musicians, or NCOs, and 1 officer, conductor/musician). However, right now, we are playing with about 19 soldiers and that's just not enough to carry a concert band sound, or just about anything else that we do. Plus, lack of practicing soldiers, does not make for a strong brass section. Our percussion ensemble (when we finally get it going) will be awesome. Sousa and all those great military marches. Those are a lot of fun. While the snare parts are easy, I really enjoy the dynamics of marches. We also do contemporary classical music and movie scores. Our ensembles consist of; a Marching band, Concert Band, Stage/jazz band, rock Group, vocal group, and some bands have a jazz combo, and we'll be starting a percussion ensemble for next year. Unfortunately, Army recruiting these days is awfully hard, so we're not getting any bigger anytime soon (in fact we're projected to lose another 25% of our strength next quarter. ). It's kind of a shame because this really is a great job to have.
  11. Spidey broke his arm with one twist and freaked the guy out, so that he backed out of a window. I don't know that Peter/spiderman would have been able to kill him outright, as Peter's morals would have gotten in the way. Notice that between the two movies, Spidey never kills anyone; They kill themselves. I don't think watching people die can leave you with pride and no guilt. You can rationalize that you made a personal choice, but tragedy is tragedy no matter how you look at it. It still would have been a waste of young human life. I don't know if he would have been able to live with it, either way.
  12. Well, I'm with the band, so we'll go up to Devens for a week. Do some "Army" training and rehearsing, then the second week, we go on tour all over New England playing a lot of Independance day shows and parades. It should be a lot of fun (Except maybe the parades...I hate marching... ).
  13. When I tried to sign up under a new name, I never got the band option. Maybe I'll try again. I haven't heard of those others, so they might be an option as well. I'll check them out this weekend (hopefully) otherwise, the next couple weeks, I'm on tour with the army. Thanks for the sites, though...I really appreciate it.
  14. I Have a couple pieces I can post, but I don't have an MP3 hosting site. I tried soundclick and another one, that just didn't seem to work. And Myspace dropped my one MP3 hoster and I can't seem to get it back. If you know of any good (and EASY) sites for MP3 hosting, let me know, and I'll gladly post some stuff.
  15. He did, though. He went after MJ first, THEN to the trolly. I think it was a great way to say that you don't ALWAYS have to sacrifice selfishness to help others.
  16. Those were really great Christopher!! Fantastic Guitar playing! I hope that when I get my MalletKat I can record some of my marimba compositions and put them on here. They won't be anywhere NEAR your skill level though.
  17. So, to answer the ORIGINAL question, I just discovered a real Objectivist band this morning. I went to an art center last night, to look for a guitarist for my band, and I found a demo CD of this band called SelfMadeSoul. It had three songs on it;"I am what I believe" (which is very uplifting song about being/doing what ever you put your MIND to), "Nightwalk" (Kind of a ballad, nice but nothing too interesting), and "The New Ethic" (A Clear Objectivist Song, hard rock, Avril Lavigne style, using Rand's "Warrant and Sanction" quote directly. All in all pretty good, and I'm going to see about checking out more of their music. If anyone is interested, check out SelfMadeSoul.
  18. Indeed! I didn't appreciate his subtle humor until I was much older. Now, it all seems like a complete stroke of genius. He's very funny live too.
  19. He didn't, and where he gets his cane was in the last three shows of this season. Apparently had had some kind of a clot, and would not let his leg be taken and a huge fight with his wife (who later left him over it), and because he refused surgery his leg was never the same, and is constantly in pain.
  20. What? 2112 Came out in 76 and Hemishperes came out in 78. The Starman logo had been around for a couple years prior to Hemishperes.
  21. I think this falls under the; If you think you can, you're right If you think you can't, you're right idea. Basically, you actually have to believe you can do project in question for it to happen. It's highly unlikely that if you think you can't do something that you will. Seems pretty logical to me.
  22. That's why Green Bay is kind of cool. When they decided that they wanted to renovate Lambeau, they had to ask the city people (Brown county) if they would accept a tax to redo Lambeau. They had to show the people exactly what they would do for them (all the improvements and such) and the people voted in favor. The PEOPLE made the decision to upgrade the stadium, and, in my opinion, it was a great decision, as Lambeau is now one of the best places to visit in the nation.
  23. Could it just be your roots as well? I'm a die-hard Green Bay Packer fan (a team owned by the city) and there are several reasons why I root for them. Number 1, I grew up in wisconsin (I live elsewhere now) and many of my best childhood memories come from there (especially watching football with friends) so, it seems natural to remain a fan, as it ties me, and more importantly, my memories to it. Also, it's just plain entertaining. Green Bay has Brett Favre, who is one of the most entertaining QB's to ever play. There are several other character players on the team (not hold-out Javon Walker) that make it a fun team to watch. Yes, because the city owns the team, business is boosted in that area. Over half the businesses in that area have some affiliation with the team and it's really quite a culture up there, that's different from the rest of the world. That said, there are other teams that I like (i.e. Redskins, Pittsburgh), usually because of individual players that I enjoy watching (Ben Roesethburg, Joe Gibbs re-surged coaching job, and others). So, by being a Green Bay fan, that doesn't stop me from liking other teams and/or other players. A question for football fans here, what do you think of all the recent holdouts?
  24. A bit late in the game for this, but I wanted to add it. I have a friend who smokes pot purely to relax. His a very jittery person and he'll have one in the evening to calm down. He never smokes at parties or any such things because he hates the whole "smoking to get stoned" thing. He is responsible with such substance (i.e. not driving after smoking), or at least as one can be responsible with an illegal substance. However, I do fully agree with the INTENT issue. If he's selling, fully aware of people who want it for nothing more than to get really high, I have to question the ethics there.
