The Origin of the universe
Richard Roark replied to the tortured one's topic in Physics and Mathematics
Thanks for the welcome.Yet, you did state that the part of my statement about the universe not having a beginning nor a end is correct. The reason for the making of my statement, to be more precise, is to confront any naysayers about how as such , the universe got here. The main people to fend off are the religous people i know and when they find out that i am an atheist they go on the offensive. Sorta funny, the Christian religions preaches about accpetance and tolerance and yet the moment a person finds out you are an atheist they attack you. I guess they just aren't so confident in there own philosophy Perhaps an explanation to the logic and how i reached the conclusion would be in order also, just ask and maybe we can clarify the matter expediently. -
Some of my favorites include: The over all final fantasy theme, I think it may be called the Crystal Theme The Opening theme to FF-X I like Aeris Theme from FFVII haven't played through the other games lately so my memorie is a bit sketchy. Other Square games though From Chrono Trigger Frog's Theme The Theme Music in the Palace of the Leader of the Repitites From Chrono Cross: the overworld themes for both worlds...I esepcially enjoy the Cello play of of the one There are many others but these are the ones of the top of my head.

Nobuo Uematsu is the composer of the music to the final fantasy games. As far as contemporary composers go, not that i know much about them, i find his work to be truly masterful and beautiful. To anybody who has played the final fantasy games they know what i am talking about. Nobuo Uematsu isn't the only quality composer at Square-Enix I think that all the music from all of there games are top notch. If any body is interested in hearing an example of music from the square composers they can go to the follwoing site. http://www.square-enix.co.jp/games/ps2/ffx2inter/ I can't remember the composers for Final Fantasty X-2, but i know it isn Nobuo Uematsu. Actually a performance was just done in San Francisco of his music. I wish I could have atttended. I am hoping i didn't break any of the rules with this post edited because i forgot to put in the address

Cool, I am right now working on getting my sentence structure and grammar better. I bought Rex Barks and have been doing the excercises in the book. I find it incredibly frustrating at times when I am writing something and word show that i have some grammar mistake and yet i don't know why, especially since i have chosen to become a writer. Yet, i want to teach myself the sciences and math again. I remember when i was younger that i absolutely loved to learn, hated school though. I can pinpoint the time when i began losing my edge though in science and math though and it frustrates me to no end. I'll never forget when I read Comprachios(sp?) the first time in the New Left. Damn did it make me angry. lol Just got down reading my post from last night, half it doesn't make any sense, must have been more tired than i realized.

Actually, GDWS since you seem to be interested in Objectivism and have several questions and misunderstandings instead of reading the Fiction of Ayn Rand first, begin by reading her nonfiction. This is what i did and when i read the novels and i was able to understood them, the novels, even better. It also helped that i was exposed to many of the concepts and ideals of Objectivism by reading Terry Goodkind for several years. It seems you are on this path though since you are in search of a copy of VOS.

The Origin of the universe
Richard Roark replied to the tortured one's topic in Physics and Mathematics
Exactly this is how i came my statement tortured one. After reading the brief discussion of Infinity in OPAR my statement does needs to be revised. Infinity was just the wrong term to use. Hmmm. What term though will apply to the statement though. Any suggestions rational one. -
thanks for the info and i'll browse and take a better look at that site tomorrow. Now it is off to bed then to work at the dead end drop. Of course working at the bottom means thing, Things can only go up from here. Cheers and goodnigh.

The Origin of the universe
Richard Roark replied to the tortured one's topic in Physics and Mathematics
I think this statement that i came to realize will sum this topic up. The Universe is Infinite, it had neither a beginning, nor will it have an end. -
Ah yes, i agree with you about Jordan the original seven books phenomenal, then i just think he lost track of everything and it got to big for him and the results of this were books 8 and 9. Books for the most part were nothing really happened. Of course many people would like to draw the same comparison between Jordan's 8 and 9 to Goodkind's 7 and 8. the fact that nothing happens. Yet, the problem with drawing such a comparison is that people unfortunately forget the context these books are written. Terry sets this up in book 6 and at the very beginning of this book too. I won't say much more than that but remember that when you read through the series. There is a definite shift in not just how much more predominately the philosophy is given to the reader, but the why behind it.

LOL. Yes i am vinny d...No, but i do shave my head and i don't have any good pictures of myself to put up. Also, Vin and I share the same body structure, though i am taller than him. I use his picture and look at his body and think to myself this is how i should look and what i am going to look like eventually. just got to keep hitting the weights. -
Yes, they are technically stand alone novels and terry does a good job of going through letting people know what happens in previous books. Yet, it is still apart of an overall series and as such i suggest you reading the from where you left off at. On a side note how far did you go into The Wheel of Time?

lets see here...I discovered Ayn Rand through Terry Goodkind. Being a young writer and wanting to write books in a similiar fashion to Terry Goodkind as i stated above I wrote to him and he sent me to the two books mentioned above. Including those two books, i have read and own, art of non fiction, atlas, fountainhead, anthem, for the new intellectual, VOS, CUI, objectism epistomology. I have read both of Peikoff's books as well. I have probably read each book at least twice, with the exception of CUI for whatever reason i get about halfway through this book and just don't finish it. Plan on it sometime soon though. -
I have yet to read the story, don't worry I will go ahead and copy and paste it and then print out and read it and leave you a comment then. I am replying to the fact of your introduction. I too find it difficult to write short stories due the the complex ideas and values i wish to write about in those stories. So, dont' fret your not the only one. Richard Roark.

Hey Amber, being a new member to the site as well it is nice to get a warm welcome. I too am a writer who is simply working a job to make ends meet. Don't have many articles written, but i do have quite a few poems as well as a a short-story. Well at least that is the best way to describe it I guess. Anyway see you around,

Not at all Elle. I was actually being geniune when i thanked Felipe for the reprimend. Don't worry i'll be around, but don't know how much i will actually contribute to any thing on the forum. I don't tend to spend much time at forums mainly for the simple reason that one can spend so much time at a forum that you wonder where the hours went. Anyway, see you around. Richard Roark

Just wanted to say Hey i am new to the forum as well. here goes a brief history about myself. I found my way to Objectivism through the Terry Goodkind and being exposed to his ideas. Being a young writer and enjoying the way he wrote i mailed him a letter asking him about tips on writing. In reply he sent me to The Romantic Manifesto and The Art of Fiction. After checking these out of Marquette University's Library. I became intrigured. Also during this time the fulfillment of living a catholic/irrational life came crashing down around me in the terms of some personal problems with a roommate and a GPA of 1.15 for that semester. I vowed to myself never to allow this to happen to me again and began to explore the philosophy of Objectivism even more. It made sense to me to begin living my life according to a philosophy founded by an author.

Actually I enjoyed Pillars of Creation and Naked Empire emensely. I know many people feel that these books didn't "move" the plot along in the way the fans would have hoped and liked. Also if you think about the books in a strict military sense, especially Naked Empire, Richard was able to take a valuable resource away from the Order. Yet, it is also my contention that many a fan don't understand the shift of the plot that the story had to take in once the Order is introduced the plot is no longer something straight forward nor even the war itself. The reason for this is found in the opening chapters of Faith of the Fallen when Richard Realizes the Sixth Rule for himself and the results of the aftermath of what occured in Soul of Fire. Also it is rather ironic that goodkind shifted the series in this direction because one can draw a comparison in the later books to the so called war on terror.

Thank You for the Reprimend Felipe....Anyway...i will put terry goodkind into a proper context and why i have brought him up on the Objectivist Forum then. He is a fantasy author who is also an objectivst, and portrays objectivism in all of his books. Obviously, Elle has read him since she picked up on my Screen name right away. I was only wondering if a any body had read him on this site and to possibly discuss his work here in a more meaniful way then i could on his site. Also i wanted to suggest his work to any body looking for a really good read that expresses profound ideas. Wasn't trying to blatantly break any rules. Also i just found the sword of truth thread in the Aesthetics Section of the forum...Sorry didn't do a thorough search of all the forums i guess before posting the topic...I would delete it myself, but i don't have that option. I am new here...finally someplace where i can talk with other Objectivist...what a relief..if only i could meet a woman who is also an objectivist..but that is another subject. Anyway I was wondering if anybody has read Terry Goodkind and also to recommend terry goodkind to any Objectivist out there looking for a good intellectual and enjoyable read.
