  1. Isn't Toohey's last speech just the embodiment of sheer evil that rivals Kant? ::shudders::
  2. You best smack some sense into that kid o' yo's! I hear that neo-classical, Super-arpeggiated, semi-demi-semiquaver note solos are all the rage with the kids these days.
  3. I HIGHLY suggest that you read "The Art of Non-Fiction". It helped me A LOT in my research papers for school. You need not read all of it, however, but it is pretty short. Topics include: Picking a subject and theme Evaluating how much of your own philosophy to include How to develop an outline How to write a draft How to edit The book is GOLD for high school and college students. Your ideas will not be all over the place and you will have a clear and concise paper, which is especially needed when being a lone Objectivist in the midst of a Liberal/Socialist/Communist university intelligentsia.
  4. Prog Rock - Rush (obviously), Yes, Genesis (70s) Jazz Fusion - Weather Report, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Miles Davis, Jaco Pastorius, Stanley Clarke, Herbie Hancock, Jon-Luc Ponty Freebop - John Coltrane Heavy Metal - Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Black Label Society, Hammerfall, Freedom Call, Manowar, Iced Earth, Ozzy Osbourne, Falconer, Yngwie Malmsteen, Anthrax, Blind Guardian, Grave Digger
  5. Who's your favorite bassist? Obviously Jaco is up there! You played at The Living Room AND The Station (I hate Great White, always have, now it's multiplied x2)? You must be a pretty serious player.
  6. If you are one, what instrument and style of music do you play? I play guitar and bass and play anything from classic, prog, hard rock to heavy metal, to fusion and blues. Creating music is my CPL, but I don't know what direction to take it in so... P.S. Have you ever heard of Harmony Central, a musicians' forum? I could use some help defending Objectivists politics at Harmony Central Political Forum P.S.S. I don't know if posting that link is against forum rules so mods, do what ya hafta do.
  7. I would like to know: what's the rational basis for having children? What if they grow up to be a person that you don't value?
  8. I'm sure the French loved an American winning and surpassing all other cyclists on French soil!
  9. To become a naturalized citizen, don't you have to be able to speak English? We maybe should not require speaking English as a law (and the gov't should definately should not go out of their way to provide Spanish materials/programs), but it is definately in the best interest of the person to speak English. P.S. Maybe the whole world should speak English?
  10. I'm pretty certain you don't know them personally. The Portuguese teacher at my school (He's Cuban/Cape Verdean) always talks about Cheggy as if he's God. The Geometry teacher, "Carlos", is the same way. These are adults!
  11. I hate Tom Cruise and his public display of his "Scientology". It just makes other philosophies such as Objectivism look like cults. My English teacher thought thought that Objectivism and Scientology were one and the same! Damn you L. Ron Hubbard!!!
  12. I didn't know him. I watch his TV show sometimes late at night after I get home from work. I did see him have a debate defending the businessman's right to hire whoever he wants and to set the terms of the employment. Remember the case where the employer didn't want any of his employees to smoke? He defended himself well against some liberal senator from Michigan. The audience booed him though. I listen to Michael Savage when I can though. I won't listen to any other broadcaster. I find his outbreaks at callers hilarious!
  13. I have one of those shirts with Che's picture on it that says, "Commies aren't cool". At my school, all the Cuban and Columbian kids ask me why I'm "hating" on Cheggy! Oh, and the instrumentalists from RATM started a new band called Audioslave with Chris Cornell, so don't think they're dead just yet. P.S. I own both SOAD and RATM albums. They are good albums to rock out to so don't put those bands completely down! Just consider Doestoevsky's writings for example. Yeah, the theme of Crime and Punishment isn't that great, but his style is fantastic.
  14. [Edit: Can you put in a much smaller image? Like 400px wide? I'll host it for now, download this image and give me the url once you've uploaded it to your server. - Felipe]
  15. I was thinking about you when I started this thread. I thought you might like Ozzy. Maiden's and Sabbath's sets were only about an hour long which annoyed the hell out of me. They should have played for at least 2 hours each. Black Label Society was also good as well. By the way, which Sabbath singer do you think is best: Ozzy, Dio, or Martin? (Better not say Martin or you're gonna catch a beatin'! )
  16. Unbelievable!!! Ozzfest was one of the best experiences I have ever had. Anyone ever been? Jada Pinkett Smith's band "Wicked Wisdom" was there and they were horrible. I truly enjoyed my heroes of metal Iron Maiden. The three-guitar classical harmonized solos were ridiculously great! Ozzy was in his best form and mooned everyone ! To just hear those first earth-shattering chords to "Iron Man" and "Black Sabbath" ring out was amazing. The only bad thing: Bands whose vocalists' scream are NOT cool. If only those bands could find REAL vocalists. P.S. I don't need to hear a lecture on how metal is evil and doesn't coincide with the Objectivist aesthetics. I enjoy listening to neo-classical metal. When I feel the double-bass drum pounding in my chest I am just uplifted to heights I can't even describe.
  17. No, I didn't mean "Why do you want to be involved in a career that involves history?" I meant why do you feel the need to help others?
  18. How long do they live for after they are revived? A couple of days, hours, minutes?
  19. They're trying to pawn it off as one of the best (if not the best) concerts ever. Give me a break.
  20. What leads you to this conclusion? There are plenty of Howard Roarks and Hank Reardens out there. And sadly, just as many Peter Keatings and Ellsworth Tooheys.
  21. If AMD's products are so much cheaper and so much superior, why don't they sell as much as Intel's? (Maybe the same reason that Rearden Metal didn't sell much?)
  22. Didn't Ayn Rand say something to the extent that dreaming of these fantastical utopias was pointless/irrational?
  23. +1 I get their magazine every quarter and it disgusts me. Every article is laced with anti-Walmart sentiment. I belong to UFCW Local 328 (Sounds like some sort of communist terrorist group ) and they do not allow private contracts between employee and employer. I usually have no bagger bagging groceries when I cashier so I have to bag the items myself. I think I am worth way more then the $7.05 (gross) per hour since I have to perform two jobs, but because no private contracts are allowed I can't vouch for a raise (although I will be getting one in October - the raises are scheduled on a yearly basis).
