  1. To me, it's the perfect cup of tea made by my own hands Dinesh.
  2. More than "mathematical", I think it's a question of being structured and logical in it's presentation. Listening to music is perceptual in nature but what emotional response we have to it stems from your conceptual whole or our experiences. Since we are able to hold more information about a piece of music than animals, we see it as a whole rather than sound impulses inter-spaced in time. We hear the logical structure to the piece and what we respond to is the integration and acknowledgement of that structure. Dinesh.

I agree with that. Parents have to be sensible enough to plan for the child's future. I'd like to pose another question, what about orphaned kids? Is there any sort of mechanism that would enable them to get an education? Dinesh.
  4. My thoughts exactly, eran. Any solution to it?? Dinesh.
  5. Thanks a lot for the information Betsy! Bangalore is hopefully where I'm headed for my Post-Graduation, so lets hope I meet more Objectivists there. dinesh.
  6. Wonder how many are "registered" in India?? I hope I'm not the only one, though it sometimes feels that way dinesh.
  7. Welcome to the boards If you wanted to learn more about Objectivism, then you have come to the right place to ask questions. Being Indian, I was pretty intrigued to see the "Om" pictures on your homepage. Are/Were you into hindu philosophy or is that just a case of liking how it looks? dinesh.
  8. Nah, I have never really liked hard/metal rock. Most of it just seems like noise. My interest in GNR is just for 4-5 brilliant songs, which I absolutely love and listen to almost everyday and I doubt Velvet Revolver will ever be able to produce anything close to that. Even I read up on them after your post, Weiland does seem to be forever in rehab, maybe they should shift their studios there dinesh.
  9. As Bowzer put it, It's not just about dating "Objectivist" gals. Most of here have an explicit knowledge of the metaphysics, epistemology, ethics etc. of Objectivism. There are many people in the world who live most parts of their life on the same principles but who just haven't identified them yet. Thats what you can look for, it doesn't have to be girls who have read or know about Ayn Rand. It's just on the way they conduct themselves and the way in which they act, you can discern a lot from that. Good luck to you Dinesh.
  10. LOL Thats certainly the plan. I actually was thinking more in terms of developing a robotic hand, so that it could write for me I have no physical disability of my hand, so I doubt I can cite such a rule. I don't even know if the Indian Edication system has any such ruling. That was good Dinesh.
  11. Just wanted to know your opinions on Handwriting Analysis. Is such an analysis scientific? Are it's predictions in any way correct? I, for one, have always been plagued by a really bad handwriting. I have improved it quite a bit from my early school days, but even now if I try to write fast (say for exams), my writing really goes bad and often quite illegible. Has anyone here been able to overcome such a problem? I would love to find a solution to it. Dinesh.
  12. I didn't follow Slash after GNR broke up. Never even got to listen to any of Snake Pit's stuff. And frankly I didn't even know about Velvet Revolver until you brought it up, neither have I heard of Scott Weiland. What genre do they come under? Have you heard of any of it? Did you like the music? What was your point? Being in India, I don't really get to listen to everything that is released out in the US. Dinesh.
  13. Ok, my blog is up prometheus Not much there yet since my exams are on. 3 more papers to go and then freedom!!! dinesh.
  14. Bryan Larsen's "Born With Wings", is one of the greatest paintings I have ever laid my eyes on. It is simply exquisite. dinesh.
  15. What do you'll think about IQ tests? As such, are they a good guide to ascertain a person's potential? Do you guys/gals know of any sites that provide good IQ tests? (I've taken a few, I'm just curious as to the ones you'll have taken, if any) dinesh.
  16. Thanks a lot eran Three friends and I do run a blog, which we put together just for sharing programming knowledge (among other things). It's mostly techie, check it out if you wish - codeWord. For sometime, I didn't post too much on it, due to time constraints, but my two freinds kept it busy in that time. On the personal side, I just got around to starting my own blog dpillay. Though there are only two posts there I won't post more stuff there, guess i'll wait for the rationalmind.net account. dinesh.
  17. GC: How do I go about trying to get a rationalmind.net email/blog? i would like mine to be http://prometheus.rationalmind.net, is this available? IM me the instructions. dinesh.
  18. I agree completely It's much easier and faster that way. GC: I too use POPPeeper for email notification for my gmx.net account. Gmail did say they are trying to get POP enabled, so once they do that we'll be able to use clients like the one above for email notification. Till then I doubt it's gonna be possible, unless gmail themselves come out with some client of their own. dinesh.
  19. That was exquisite!!! dinesh.
  20. It isn't good news. The Congress party actually made a statement recently to the effect that "we should be able to reserve jobs for minorities in private companies too". I hope they don't ruin the economy with their inherent socialist policies. dinesh.
  21. I love Chopin's "Fantasie Impromptu" and "Polonaise". They are both awesome pieces. dinesh.
  22. I didn't want to continue with the rhetoric either, so that works out just fine, thank you. dinesh.
  23. I wonder which particualr marriage you saw, cause Indian marriages are usually very very loud and full of life. It's not a single marriage day, it's like this week long celebration in some cases. Arranged marriages are very much a big part of the society out here. The tradition is usually that the girl's/guy's parents look for the would be groom/bride. The reason they work is that the concept of divorce used to be alien to this culture. It was very much like "this marriage has got to work, cause there's no other alternative". Though that has been on a major decline for the past sometime now. It's usually the women who get stuck with dumb guys and it's repulsive to think that they have no alternative about remaining in the marriage or not. Indian culture is very different from it's western counterparts. There has been a heavy shift in the outlook to marriage in the past two decades and things are definitely becoming better, but we still have a long way to go. The practices of arranged marriage are very much prevalent here, and they aren't gonna be phased out all that soon. Personally I would never agree to an arranged marriage, but that does not mean, it doesn't work. People out here make it work. My parents have had an arranged marriage and it turned out just fine dinesh.
