  1. I think this exact premise is where many part company with Objectivism.
  2. I heard Odwalla juice was making people sick awhile ago , now it is $3 a bottle. I cannot state facts I do not have them, just a theory at the very least. Does one need to take responsibility for their own life down to the food they eat and the air they breathe and the water they wash with and drink? A person could spend all day/all of their lives just figuring those things out. Can't we hold anyone else accountable ? I think we can. We pay taxes. (ok I realize that is pretty funny) Pam
  3. My opinion (since the FDA won't disclose the information) is that these and all other questionable produce came from Mexico. (My understanding is the workers relieve themselves in the fields and they use human waste as fertilizer-I could very well be wrong though. OK I heard it on Michael Savage's show and I agree.) Some govt entity put a stall on all "Mexican" produce recently I don't know if that has been lifted. This is what happens in a global economy, everything is sold at the lowest to the highest. I admire the concept of laissez faire (sp?) but in a GLOBAL market where there are so many players without scruples, is that even possible?
  4. Wow that (original article) was one of the most horrendous things I have ever read. I am surprised they didn't have a number 11-get a lobotomy, men dont like chicks who think too much. Gah! Great reply Mammon-I really liked it. Pam

I Love the quotes that this site puts up. I thought this one was appropriate and I also think it applies to this thread well.

Thanks all for the responses. Tenzing_Shaw, thanks-I am not a very prolific writer so let me just say I agree with you for the most part-well probably 99.9 percent. ha. The only thing I think that appealed to me about the essay is probably the misplaced rebellious spirit of it. Yes Haemp-a calling is something you are good at-I agree that many think once they realize what it is for them the skies will part and they will effortlessly skip into success. Pam

Can you explain profoundly evil in more detail? (I understand what you mean in that he is a parasite, but the profoundly part is something I would be interested to hear your thoughts on.) I am much more inclined to Objectivism believe me to anything this person or others like him espouse. It is just the idea of maybe everyone doesn't have a calling, or do they? Maybe people expect a "calling" to be something glamorous or exciting when maybe one's calling is making a good burger (AS). Pam
  8. Oliver Stone is so theatrical he may do the Fountainhead some good inadvertently. I am not happy with any of the rumors of the treatments of Fountainhead or AS.

    My Job

Thanks all I completely agree that i need to find my calling but i also know to wait for that may hurt one's psyche if it is never found. I think it may be too much to expect sometimes... I will look for that book ty Athena, sounds like exactly what I would need to read right now. But, I fluctuate. Any opinions on this vs Ayn Rand? http://ranprieur.com/essays/dropout.html Quite the contrast but I can relate to both ideologies. Thanks again Pam
  10. I enjoyed this alot Objectist attitude? I think so. http://www.chow.com/stories/11065 Pam (btw after the first one plays another one starts after a few seconds)

    My Job

Thanks, I guess I AM looking for advice after all. I really am not sure what to do to be honest. Pam
  12. OK, I have done office work (tech/pc/hardware-phone support, job got outsourced and job prospects along with it) office work (clerical), and retail work. I incredibly dislike cubicle land - it seemed unnatural and a slow form of suicide, so I decided to cut my expenses, economize and work only part-time at a brain "free" job and use my intellect elsewhere. Well my retail job is really getting to me, I have to deal with managers who are either rude or stupid, they are mostly both, and supervisors who are put there by said managers who are TEENAGERS, they aren't even the smart teenagers at my place of employment they are the bubblehead teenagers. I have a resume that I doubt anyone there could even understand, let alone spell. I know I am sounding stuck up but I am TIRED of stupid people having the upper hand over the wage earning part of my life. Guess I am just venting-I guess I already know what I need to do (AGAIN )

i get the idea from reading her books (ok i dont just get the idea it screams at me lol) that a r wasnt a feminist but wasnt dagny a feminist role model ? i think so her acquiescence to rearden was annoying but it made sense in context it is also a bit off putting that all the big "speeches" in her books were made by men SHE wrote them and she was i think (lol) female so what the heck? pam
