Who are these people??? I'm Cuban, and I honestly can't say I know any Cubans now living in the US that don't be hatin' on Cheggy. -

My bf has a shirt with a drawing of a hand flipping the bird and next to it, a hand with the index pointing out at the viewer. Maybe we can wear those? -

Those Che Guevara shirts that RATM popularized really piss me off. -
I remember that one. The caretaker was drawn to be really mean looking. There were signs on the wall that said "A is A" and "Helping is Futile." And the caretaker took away all the kids' pacifiers. Maggie's revolt comes about because she wants her pacifier back.

A friend of mine, an Objectivist, used to be shop steward. His argument was that he took the position for selfish reasons. Being steward would make him privy to certain things that a regular union member would not know about, he thought he'd have more clout in the eyes of bosses, etc. Would it be wrong to join for those reasons?

Just as an aside: A few years ago, some people in my town used spray paint and stencils to paint the words "Vegan Power" on a few walls and benches downtown. Some time after that had happened, I was walking down the street and saw that someone had taken a fat Sharpie and altered the stencil to read "Eat Vegans For Power." I loved it.

Did anyone last night catch the PBS special based on "Guns Germs and Steel?" Any thoughts? I would have liked to get a better idea as to what resources are present in New Guinea. The show could have gone into more detail on a few other points, too. Though I still am pondering the validity of Diamond's thesis.

Thanks. I will check it out.

Hi all. I first read "The Fountainhead" in high school and have since read it many times over. Now I am 23 years old. This is the first time I have participated in any kind of Objectivism discussion group. Why am I here? I don't really consider myself an Objectivist because I don't think I have a truly deep enough understanding of the whole philosophy and because I cannot accept their stance on environmentalism -- from what I understand of it. I really admire Ayn Rand as a person. The story of her coming to America and realizing her dreams is truly wonderful. I am the child of Cuban exiles, so I have close knowledge of the horrors that come about when the looters take over. Quite frankly, I am very frightened by the recent court decision on eminent domain. Nothing seems safe anymore. But I guess I'm rambling a bit. I'm a big softy at heart -- I do love Morrissey, after all.
