  1. It is a very good IDEA for a game... the execution is less than perfect though. This would be a really good game if it wasn't so one dimensional and if the user had more control. Having said that, here's my country: The Republic of Phoenix of Atlantis "A leash is only a rope with a noose at both ends." UN Category: Anarchy Civil Rights: Superb Economy: Very Strong Political Freedoms: World Benchmark Location: the West Pacific The Republic of Phoenix of Atlantis is a small, economically powerful nation, notable for its barren, inhospitable landscape. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 10 million live in a state of perpetual fear, as a complete breakdown of social order has led to the rise of order through biker gangs. There is no government in the normal sense the word; however, a small group of community-minded, corrupt, pro-business individuals juggles the competing demands of Commerce, Defence, and Religion & Spirituality. Income tax is unheard of. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Furniture Restoration, Trout Farming, and Door-to-door Insurance Sales industries. All tariffs have been abolished, the death penalty has been reintroduced, the alarmingly racist TV show 'Bigtopians Say the Darndest Things' is a hit, and college students make ends meet by selling their kidneys. Crime is crippling, and the police force struggles against a lack of funding and a high mortality rate. Phoenix of Atlantis's national animal is the phoenix, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the dollar. Phoenix of Atlantis is ranked 1964th in the region and 38,181st in the world for Largest Automobile Manufacturing Sector.
  2. Tete Rouge. (Tay-rouge). French for 'red head'. Makes sense because he is from Canadia. - 1.s.o.g.
  3. If this question has been asked and answered previously, I apologise and ask if someone could post a link to where it has been discussed. Why is there a rift in existence between ARI and TOC? What were the fundamental differences that caused this split? Thank you.
  4. I'm a very big Radiohead fan, even though Thom Yorke, the lead singer of the band is a socialist. Although they're not as preachy as RATM. Thankfully it doesn't detract from that fact that the band has an enormous amount of talent and can be very inspiring at times. And Pink Floyd's guitar solos are some of the most inspirational notes of music I have ever heard in my life. Especially the one at the end of "Comfortably Numb".
  5. Yes, you're both right of course. I made my original statement about not paying the fee with regard to larger, more riskier transactions in mind - for example, the purchase of a house. I just didn't make myself very clear. My bad.
  6. Hmm... I don't see why a person would NOT pay the contract fee. The purpose of a contract is basically to form a legally enforceable agreement between two or more parties. If you don't pay the government the contract fee, you're essentially saying that you don't want the contract to be legally enforceable, thus defeating the whole purpose of forming a contract in the first place.
  7. [Mod's note: Merged with earlier thread on a similar topic. - sN] Government Financing: Hello, this is my first post here and am quite new to Objectivism, although for as far as I can remember, I have lived my life according to Objectivist principles. I just never really knew that it had a name until last year. Now that I've got the introduction out of the way, I would like some clarification on a certain topic. As I understand, the government's proper role is basically to retaliate against those who initiate force against its citizens and nothing more. And also, taxes should not exist, right? Well, under this system, how does the government acquire funds in order to fulfill its role? I'm assuming that it will be through private, voluntary donations, right? If this is the case, and certain citizens choose not to pay the government, then does this mean that they do not get protection from the government should someone try to initiate force against them? Thanks in advance.
