Gaea: Rands pregnant herione
intellectualammo replied to intellectualammo's topic in Ayn Rand Book Club
I think technically I was worse regardless because of just how "vocal" I had gotten, let's just say, and other actions I had taken, in which she'd went to the police about and gotten an EPFA out on me then. But anyways, when in a marriage ones spouse can change their minds on important matters because of volition and they have the right to and I just did not deal with that when it happened properly. -

Gweneth Paltrow that I spoke of has now made the cover of People mag as the Most Beautiful Woman in the World 2013: "People Magazine named her the most beautiful woman in the world while last week Star Magazine declared the actress the most hated celebrity on the planet." They mentioned arrogance. She also models and does adds for Estee Lauder, among my top favorite woman fragrances, like the Pleasures line. http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/entertainment/2006-09/21/xin_4109032110517563222913.jpg

AR's benzedrine use in news

They have sources. Some biographers of Rand cite her usage. Is that what you mean? -
I wonder how this could even be possible, judge to rule on possibly forcing her to sell her life story as it may be an asset, one that she didn't even write (or even wants to sell it) in order to pay off debts in banckrupy: http://www.prweb.com/releases/2013/4/prweb10623251.htm The ruling will come May 9th.

Marriage and Divorce Entitlements

On that subject, just saw this in the news: " OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — Several Republican lawmakers filed a bill Thursday seeking an exemption to the state's anti-discrimination laws just weeks after legal action was taken against a Richland florist who denied service to a gay couple for their upcoming wedding. The bill introduced by Sen. Sharon Brown, R-Kennewick, would allow businesses the right to deny services or goods if they felt doing so was contrary to their "sincerely held religious beliefs, philosophical beliefs, or matters of conscience." More on it here: http://m.usatoday.com/article/news/2116231 " Under state law, it's illegal for businesses to refuse to sell goods, merchandise and services to any person because of their sexual orientation." That is an immoral, rights violating law. -
For me, I have been shaving my head for many many years, I just noticed less and less areas that need shaved, so it works for me, my receding hairline and bald spot. I'm 34.

I was listening to Ivana D'Arc album Symphony Metal Queen that I own, and remember the short hair on Ivana (and those peep toes she's wearing I like) -
OK, would what he did be something that could be considered a necessity defense then? Then he wouldn't have thought that it was a crime, like how you said. I think I can understand it that way now. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Necessity

Murdoch is in the news, Rand is too: " Rupert Murdoch, chairman and CEO of News Corp., and one of the richest men on the planet, recently claimed that free markets are morally superior to more social based ideas of morality and fairness. "We've won the efficiency argument," he claimed." http://www.opednews.com/articles/Ruppert-Murdoch-Ayn-Rand-by-Brian-Lynch-130425-46.html " In Murdoch's world the idea that market success is based on greed is a false characterization that creates confusion. He believe that markets succeeds where governments fail, not because of greed, but because people are given "... incentives to put their own wants and needs aside to address the wants and needs of others."

"I can't move on from her." Because you don't. It's easy for me to quickly devalue someone. If that is what you really want to do, and can't on your own, seeking out a mental health pro could help you to move on. -

I've been registered for years. Never been called. I did it because of a member of this forum I had gotten to know some and her mother was in need of such a transplant. So I bought the cheek swab kit and sent it in and am on the registry. I was touched by what was going on in her life with her mother and when they did find a fairly suitable match for her and the potential donor was willing to proceed... I haven't talked to the member in many years, not since I donated money to her mother church when her mother died not long after the transplant. I assume I did something wrong in doing that, because I haven't heard anything from her since then. That's where the family wanted the money to go since they help with raising money. I didn't see anything wrong with that. But anyways. You still have to agree to proceed with doing it if called, sometimes you can even meet the person you donated to. I think you are compensated some, all medical expenses paid I am pretty sure. The procedure to get the marrow from donor might not be invasive like getting it from hip bone, but from blood. I haven't kept up with it, just this thread made me think of all this again. -
I went with Field A. There was no Field B to me. Then when my financial and living conditions got tougher and legislation in Field A was happening - I walked. Right out. Without even withdrawing. Early second semester freshmen year. So no Field A or B or C, it was off to work dead end jobs. Retail, then housekeeping in a hospital. Never regretted it. I do write though. I threw all of it away about two or three years ago, but started up again. Better than ever. More confident and passionate about it. There was a time when I wanted to get into philosophy, and took a class here and there in community college. Of the four classes I took off and on over a period of several years, three I walked out on, one I made all the way through, an Ethics class that I had an A in. I soon realized I could learn more on my own. That was an online class that Ethics on, and in board discussions I got into it with some guy in the class, the prof had to step in online discussion or something can't remember. Also the Ph.D prof I sent a message to about a question I had gotten wrong, because I saw a difference between pleasure and happiness, but she said for our purposes in this class, they are the same. Oh, well, thanks for telling me that NOW!

AR's benzedrine use in news
intellectualammo replied to intellectualammo's topic in Miscellaneous Topics
My interest was Rands using in the news and what is said in regards to it. She was also on antidepressant of some kind I think I read elsewhere in the last three years or so of her life. There was a book or two I read that really did a good job of going into her using. I think they were Ayn Rand And the World She Made and The Goddess of the Market. It seems it can be moral to use if it's for a productive purpose, and so forth, it's contextual. Even smoking I think Peikoff said, if it's something that can get you through. I'm not sure what podcast I heard that one in. For me, I only use coffee when I wake up to get me going. -
AR's benzedrine use in news

From the Wiki: " Adderall is widely used as a "study drug" at many universities,[41] It enables the user to focus and stay awake. Stories of students writing papers continuously for an unusually long time or "cramming" all night for an exam with no loss of energy or concentration are common.[41] Adderall use as an academic advantage has become increasingly common among college students. Young adults are by far the fastest-growing segment of people taking A.D.H.D medications. Nearly 14 million monthly prescriptions for the condition were written for Americans ages 20 to 39 in 2011, two and a half times the 5.6 million just four years before, according to the data company I.M.S. Health.[42] According to a 2010 National College Health Assessment, 8 percent of surveyed University students said they had used stimulants within the past 12 months that were not prescribed to them. Numbers from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration found that 6.4 percent of full-time college students abused Adderall in 2007. But some studies have found that as many as 25 percent of students abused prescription stimulants.[43] Illegal Adderall use is highest among students from the northeastern region of the United States and students from colleges with more competitive admission standards.[44] Students with A.D.H.D. sell Adderall on college campuses for anywhere from $5 to $25 a pill depending on the time of the academic year.[45] Adderall is a Schedule II drug. Selling it is a Class B felony and can result in 24 months of probation and up to 60 days in jail. Possessing the drug without a prescription can result in 18 months probation and up to 30 days in jail. [46] It is often difficult to catch illegal Adderall sales because the pills are “easily concealed, odorless, and can be perceived as prescribed drugs”. Peikoff does a podcast about the use of certain drugs can be morally sanctioned, and how he used "chemicals" something stronger than caffeine for writing papers in college: http://www.peikoff.com/2011/08/15/can-the-use-of-drugs-such-as-benzedrine-or-caffeine-ever-be-morally-sanctioned-for-example-in-the-pursuit-of-extremely-mentally-taxing-work-requiring-a-high-degree-of-long-term-mental-focus/ -
Just saw mention of Ayn Rand's bennies use in this article among others listed: " Greene soon stopped taking the drug; not all writers had such self-control. In 1942 Ayn Rand took up Benzedrine to help her finish her novel, The Fountainhead.* She had spent years planning and composing the first third of the novel; over the next 12 months, thanks to the new pills, she averaged a chapter a week. But the drug quickly became a crutch. Rand would continue to use amphetamines for the next three decades, even as her overuse led to mood swings, irritability, emotional outbursts, and paranoia—traits Rand was susceptible to even without drugs." http://www.slate.com/articles/arts/culturebox/features/2013/daily_rituals/auden_sartre_graham_greene_ayn_rand_they_loved_amphetamines.html

My life may be hopeless and I want to die
intellectualammo replied to jennipher's topic in Psychology and Self Improvement
I didn't know you were receiving disability. But since you are and are with your parents, this gives you an opportunity to figure things out for yourself. I have no ambition in regards to a career. I dropped out of college, have no degrees, certifications, just a high school diploma. All I do is hold down a dead end job. But I find much value in reading, writing, listening to music, exercising... And I'm happy with just this. I make just enough to support myself so I can live life as a loner. I've been living like this for many many years. If you really don't want to be on disability, and can't work certain kinds of jobs, then you have to find one you can, or work towards a career that may require more schooling. Pursue those interests you have in ideas and finance. Those are at least values to you. If you are unable to will yourself to any kind of action, you should seek out a mental health professional to work through it. -

Some security work doesn't involve standing, though a lot involve walking. But getting an ACT 235 you may need. I know at the hospital I work at as a janitor, they have contracted security outside and officers that work for us. One sits outside the ED. I'd look at any jobs that you may be able to do with you qualifications and meets your needs. Possibly cashier work, ticket booths, etc. I can think of many offhand. How are you living now? How do you afford to eat and so forth? Parents, boyfriend? -
Boston Marathon Explosions

He's said to be in custody now. " Police said they had taken the second suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings into custody here Friday night, after a day of intense searching that shut down daily life across a large swath of greater Boston. Shortly after 8 p.m., police surrounded a boat stored behind a home in East Watertown, a short distance away from where Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 19, had been last seen. Authorities said they believed Tsarnaev was inside the boat, which had been covered in a tarp. He was thought to be wounded but alive: television crews reported that they could hear police calling his name, attempting to induce his surrender" http://m.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/massive-police-operation-under-way-in-boston/2013/04/19/979ec6dc-a8c6-11e2-a8e2-5b98cb59187f_story.html- 64 replies
