  1. Agreed. Republican rule should produce the best choices, right? I mean the only other alternatives are fascism, oligarchy, monarchy or absolute democracy.
  2. This is just wonderful news. When Atlas Shrugged: the Movie is released, Objectivism will spread like wildfire.
  3. The entire story was funny. It was full of situational irony and the surprise of unintended consequences. But as a rational and independent person, you shouldn't take my work for it. Read it again. If you don't find it laugh-out-loud hilarious, you and I obviously don't share the same sense of life.
  4. The greatest comedy ever written is Ayn Rand's short story "Good Copy." When a small town reporter finds no news to write about, he creates his own. The results are utterly hilarious -- but of course completely grounded a rational ethic. Not Aristophanes, not Molière, not Twain, not even O. Henry has ever managed to pen such life-affirming mirth. This story alone makes Ayn Rand the greatest comic writer of all time. [Warning: I think Lance is a troll. - GC]
  5. I agree that “If it were possible to by fully and irrevocably certain, beyond any possibility of error, that a man were guilty, then capital punishment for murder would be appropriate and just.” But on the other hand, “men are not infallible; juries make mistakes; that is the problem.” Therefore, we resolve the dilemma by insisting on “criteria of proof so rationally stringent as to forbid the possibility of convicting an innocent man.” This will prevent a jury of fallible men from ever imposing the death penalty on an innocent party. For it would be impossible for 12 jurors to agree unanimously to evade rationally stringent criteria of proof.
  6. This is obviously a libertarian peacenik site, i.e. it promotes "freedom" by attacking the legitimate use of force against the state terrorists who would reduce the freest nation on earth to a landscape of smoldering ruins. Here's one example: In Bush War I we at least had the common sense to save the oil and then to get out immediately. However, Bush War II has been a much different story. When the Weapons-of-Mass-Destruction ruse fell through and was exposed for what it really was, the public support that had been whipped up by the politicians before the latest undeclared war dwindled rapidly. Now, most of us realize our mistake. Toppling dictators can never be a mistake. As Ayn Rand has observed, any free nation has the right to invade a dictatorship. It doesn't matter what kind of weapons the dictator possesses: Q: And that any free nation today has the moral right -- though not the duty -- to invade Soviet Russia, Cuba, or any other "slave pen." Correct? RAND: Correct. A dictatorship -- a country that violates the rights of its own citizens -- is an outlaw and can claim no rights. Please refrain from using Objectivism Online to promote anti-American propaganda.
  7. Libertarians are not pro-liberty but anti-state. Law is anathema to libertarians. They are ethical hedonists who believe in doing whatever they feel like doing. It is futile to attempt to convince them otherwise. In fact, to engage them in polite debate would simply lend them the sanction of the victim. See Peter Schwartz, "Libertarianism: the Perversion of Liberty."
