  1. Here are the books I'm currently reading: Masters of Doom, David Kushner - biography of John Carmack and John Romero, the creators of Doom and Quake FDR's Folly, Jim Powell - deconstruction of the New Deal Fuzzy Logic, Daniel McNeill, Paul Freiberger - biography of Lofti Zadeh, "inventor" of fuzzy logic and a shallow explanation of what fuzzy logic is OPAR - reading for the second time The Fountainhead - reading for the second time
  2. I made that exact same observation about Moore. Here is a deconstruction of Bowling for Columbine for anyone who is interested. Truth about Bowling for Columbine As a graduate of the same school district that Columbine is located in, I was especially frustrated by the lies in that film. I have no intention of seeing this new movie, if I do I certainly won't being paying for it.
  3. I drink Diet Coke, does that count? j/k To celebrate I usually go out for a nice dinner with close friends.
  4. Jerry you hit the nail right on the head. This would be an ideal way for there to be objective building codes and standards in a completely free market society.
  5. I find it difficult to believe that you have read Introduction to Objectivist Epistemology and you haven't read The Virtue of Selfishness. I personally like The Fountainhead better than Atlas Shrugged, I can identify with Roark more than the characters in Atlas.
  6. I drove a Toyota Prius extensively for about nine months. It averaged a little more than 40 miles a gallon doing primarily stop and go driving.
  7. My take on the issue is that Eddie, while possessing Objectivist virtues such as rationality and productivity, lacks an essential characteristic, self-esteem. Eddie is a second-hander who for his entire life derived his self-esteem from people such as Dagny, Francisco and Hank Rearden. This is exemplified when Dagny asks him what he likes about Francisco after one of his summer visits. Eddie's response is, "He makes me feel safe." Dagny responds with, "He makes me feel excitement and danger."
  8. I discovered Ayn Rand about two years ago when I was listening to the Sean Hannity radio show and he was talking about school vouchers. I didn't know what a school voucher was and through an internet search I stumbled upon a editiorial on CapitalismMagazine.com. I read some stuff on that site and then read "Capitalism: The Unknown Ideal," because at that point all I really was interested in was politics, I hadn't given much thought to my entire philisophical views. This opened my eyes to the entire Objectivist philosophy beginning with "The Fountainhead" and "Atlas Shrugged." Since then, Objectivism has really helped me to begin to live my life in a rational, principled manner.
