  1. How about this one. IWDWBFMAIYDLISI. I Will Do What's Best For Me And If You Don't Like It Shove It.
  2. Today and some other days like it I will lend a good friend or a teammate money to get food etc. The chance that they return the favor or pay me back is about 50/50 but I figure it's ok because we're teammates or good friends and usually look out for each other. Is that wrong by objectivist standards? Also on occassion I need to borrow a piece of paper from a friend or person sitting near me. I think everyone figures it would be more trouble to pay them back the 1/4 penny than it would be to pay their debts, so is this type of thing wrong?
  3. I took one test and got an INTJ the other I got an ISTJ. Seems about right to me.
  4. I've seen quite a bit of criticism of the Objectivist Center on here, and since I haven't really looked into it closesely I'd like to know exactly what about them I should be watching out for.

There's no reason that projecting his parent's murder on every villain wouldn't create a love for judgement, or that there's much of a difference between projecting that murder on every villain and not wanting a similar thing to happen to other people.
  6. In my experience, (this is second hand of course stuff told to me by friends that are girls) guys break up with girls because they "don't feel worthy" or "are too busy" etc. when they want to pursue someone else while keeping their current girlfriend open as an option. That's just from what I've seen though.
  7. EC is right. A good bit ago I walked up to an eighteen year old girl (I did not know she was 18 at the time) and introduced myself, asked her name, and then proceeded to make fun by doing a bad prep impression because I saw her walking out of an Abercrombie and Fitch store. (I'm hoping she wasn't attracted to the impression itself) I got her phone number but she recluded once she asked how old I was and I answered honestly that I was 15. Girls want the guy to be in control. That's why being cocky works. That's why giving a girl flowers doesn't, it puts you in a submissive position. Not asking a girl out officially also works because they're off balance. Most important thing to remember is nice guys finish last in dating.
  8. What is tolerance? why is it that we aspire to nullify our opinions when our opinions are all we have? After all tolerance only morphs itself into the hatred of intolerance. At which point everyone is pressured into tolerance through intolerance. Therefore a feigned tolerance reigns over the general populace in fear of being alienated as a traitor. Opinions seperate us from animals. They have no opinions and and cannot follow a logical path. So why attempt to nullify our opinions which in effect gives animals an equal reverance to humans? Because opinions make us individuals, admission of equal correctness of all opinions creates a uniform society in which if you have an opinion and therefore are an individual then you are not tolerated yourself. That is a communist state. I dont advocate fighting over every small difference in opinion, but i protest the notion that it is somehow wrong to hold an opinion on another's life style. For those who say "who are you to judge?" i am a human being, of body and mind capable of logical thought. That alone permits me to judge. Note: This was not directed towards homosexuality.
  9. That's because people become dependent on the welfare. In order for people to break out of a socialist government the whole system needs to break down. Atlas needs to shrug in Sweden.
  10. Illegal Immigration wouldn't even be an issue if America didn't have so many socialist programs and laws. The major problem that rises with immigration is that they get welfare and they work for cheap. Because they work for so cheap they get hired instead of American's who can't compete because it's against the law for them work for less than minimum wage. The problem isn't illegal immigration itself, it's too large of a government spending too much on illegal immigrants who don't pay into the system.
  11. At which point do we take into account women for freedom? Women's sufferage started in the early 20th century so if you count slavery (which you should) you must count women's rights as well. As a result it is arguable that post-WWI is the freest era and we have been regressing since FDR.
  12. Tough for an objectivist to find a place huh? Compromise is never fun but you gotta live somewhere eh?
  13. Stay away from Oregon and Massachussets especially. I can see my home state (Oregon) growing more and more liberal. In general, I would have to suggest the South, Texas, or many of the midwestern states. Those are the one's that I have noticed being consistently red over the last few elections.
  14. Title 9, more government sticking their noses in places where government noses don't belong. Recently in my home state of Oregon, there is a law suit (or a complaint i'm not completely sure which) against a school district for accepting sponsorships for mens athletics teams (free shoes etc. as a means for Nike and such companies to advertise their products) while the women's athletic teams don't get the same sponsorships, largely because it is not a big enough market to make the sponsorship profitable. So now public schools are faced with the choice of refusing the equipment (in exchange for advertisements) or not accepting any equipment sponsorships at all. This is while the Oregon school system is running itself into the ground with debt? I think someone in my state that can vote needs to wake up. Any thoughts?
  15. On another interesting note, in English class, I was reading Cyrano De Bergerac and I noticed that Cyrano exhibited many traits that Francisco from Atlas Shrugged did as well. Among these are that he was altogether unwilling to take or give charity, unwilling to stop attacking those who were immoral, and willing to fight them to the death. This book was written in the late 1800's.
  16. Just to add onto that, if a four year old got a hold of a semi-automatic, he probably would not be able to control it well enough to actually hit anyone from any sort of distance. On the topic of contextual knowledge, it was in Francisco's best interest for him not to retaliate against Reardon because he was hopeful that Reardon would join him in Galt's Gulch and if Reardon disliked Francisco then the chances of that were slimmer. I suppose Francisco could have pressed assault charges if he had wante, but it would not have been in his best interest given his goal.

Howard Roarke in The Fountainhead built the public housing unit for the pride of doing what no one else could. Would being a superhero not boost someone's ego in a similar way? Would the same thing go for cops?
  18. Which begs the question, is sexual activity at a young age scarring to that person merely because they have been indoctrinated into the belief that it is supposed to be/is wrong?
  19. Not to mention that it is frowned upon to bomb a country (no matter how well you aim the bombs) and not rebuild it. Not that America should worry about every whim of the United Nation or any foreign power for that matter, but the way I see it is that we want at least some semblance of a relationship with foreign nations in order to have allies and do other such things.
  20. Rights are not exclusive to one group. Some groups have the advantage of being able to use rights that others don't, but everyone has the same rights. So in order to claim that you can ethically steal, and therefore have the right to, you would also have to say that it is ethical for someone else to steal from you. Because of this it is not in your best interest to steal because you would be granting others the right to steal from you. If stealing is ethical, then you have removed one of the few true purposes of government from its hands. Enforcing law. If you take that out, it's just there for the military and to steal your money to give it to someone else.
  21. Unfortunately, insisting immediate execution wouldn't go anywhere. Even if this person wanted to waive the whole process he couldn't there are about ten years of mandatory trials. In such a case, demanding immediate death would do very little to prove that you are attempting to change your ways seeing as the only effect would be being put on suicide watch. Once you are out, supposing you get out, rejoin the rest of the world and start making an honest living. If possible, pay some sort of retribution to those that you harmed. (If you are a rapist, devote what possible amount of your paycheck to your victim) After all, you would have essentially stole from them, giving them money is paying for it, although there are some things you can't put a price tag on. Edit: Oh, and never believe you are done paying for it. I would be willing to bet most rape victims never stop feeling the effect or are changed by the experience.
  22. Halo2, various other xbox live games. Tag-aHornyTeletubby (I only chose the name to add insult to injury when they hear "you got stuck by a horny teletubby")
  23. My first Ayn Rand book was Atlas Shrugged, I found it this last summer when searching a local Borders for a decent book to read. (8th-9th grade transition) It took me around two weeks to read. The theory immediatly appealed to me because I have been brought up thus far in a very politically active family. Immediatly after reading Atlast Shrugged I began reading The Fountainhead and after that Anthem. I now consider myself a full objectivist although I know that one is never done learning.
  24. Being a fifteen year old myself, I think I may have an interesting contribution to this thread. I have experienced both attraction to women that are far younger and far older than I. In fact recently I have been either dating down or up. The reason I see that I have been attracted to these groups are completely opposite. I vastly enjoy the company of a younger women for the reason that they are innocent, and the older ones because they are jaded. I generally advise my friends that are girls and my age to stay away from significantly older men for the reason that a girl is usually more willing to do what an older man wants regardless of their pre-disposition. My theory would be that this is a pred v. prey instinct. When attacking a group (the female gender as a whole) a predator would be most likely to attack the prey that is different and noticeably deformed/inferior. That is, of course, to attack. As for attraction one would be repelled by this. As for this it would be the inverse of the previous scenario. A predator would be more inclined to stay away from the prey that seems more physically able to defend him/herself. Height and a large bust would contribute to the instinctive perception of genetic superiority. Tanned skin may imply that they are more adapted to the environment (sun) and would be more fit. So being the inverse of a predator (not in their means but in their ends) a human would be more attracted to this type of person as a mate.
  25. PLAYBOY: In Atlas Shrugged, one of your leading characters is asked, "What's the most depraved type of human being?" His reply is surprising: He doesn't say a sadist or a murderer or a sex maniac or a dictator; he says, "The man without a purpose." Yet most people seem to go through their lives without a clearly defined purpose. Do you regard them as depraved? RAND: Yes, to a certain extent. PLAYBOY: Why? RAND: Because that aspect of their character lies at the root of and causes all the evils which you mentioned in your question. Sadism, dictatorship, any form of evil, is the consequence of a man's evasion of reality. A consequence of his failure to think. The man without a purpose is a man who drifts at the mercy of random feelings or unidentified urges and is capable of any evil, because he is totally out of control of his own life. In order to be in control of your life, you have to have a purpose -- a productive purpose. Playboy Interview, 1964 Copyright ©, PLAYBOY I hope this will shed some light on the issue of the murder. If your professor brings up that the most powerful person can do whatever it is he wants, bring up Stalin. He was very powerful and in order to stay ahead of his competition for being most powerful he killed them off. While he was doing this, he killed those in his own country capable of producing. As far as killing a deadbeat on the side of the road, only once, for your own pleasure, it seems to me if you killed the man for your own pleasure then it would be unlikely for you to kill only once. Psychology of murders has shown that the more they kill the sloppier they get, they obtain the feeling that they are invincible, which ultimately leads to their being caught.
