  1. I personally believe that the world of Anthem is more like the United States today. One of the points of collectivism is to make individuals more equal which is generally what the US is like today. Men and women of all races are treated equally. Also today the government can interfere with the rights of anyone, and the liberties of the individual are much more expendable than they previously were. I thought it was interesting that my teacher chose to compare Anthem with 1776, which was when we were actually fighting for our independance to gain such rights. Thank you for the welcome!

We're currently reading Ayn Rand's Anthem in school and we were discussing the question in the class the other day of whether Anthem's world is more like that of the United states in 1776 or the United States today. I'm quite curious to hear some of your thoughts on the matter. Also, I'm a new member here and thought I'd pop in and say hello!
