I actually haven't read the final book yet... I tend to get about 2/3 the way through most things... anyways I better get on that. Oh and thanks for the info! -

I completely forgot the Golden Compass series by Philup Pullman and Spring-heeled Jack which pullman did a graphic novel for. -
What are your favorite TV shows?
Icarus Lives replied to DavidV's topic in Movies, Shows, and Theatre
There just isn't anything better than House although i've missed just about every episode of the current season. One of these days, i'm going to through a 'House' party and what every episode up to the current one. Also, when I can find the episodes online, Bullshit! with Penn and Teller is awesome. I really like the one about the validity of the bible. -
Personality Types (Myer-Briggs)
Icarus Lives replied to Colonel Rebel's topic in Psychology and Self Improvement
I think its more likely to be used for the reasons the CIA supposedly uses it. If you can classify a persons temperment it is more likely you can predict how they will react to a given situation. What that says about freewill... that's why the test is bogus, right? -

I'm an INTP... hurray for architects! That being said I would like to see a double blind study conducted to test the validity of this test. What the validity of this test says about the utility of it... that is another question entirely. -

I guess it is too much of a stretch to consider that maybe the phenomenon is attributed to our only source of warmth in the first place.

The US war in Iraq
Icarus Lives replied to The Wrath's topic in Terrorism and Islamic Fundamentalism
I think it is important to note that it cannot be given by force which is what this war is really all about. The neocons believe that we can establish democracy in the middle east and that it would be in our best interest to do so. What rational they base this belief upon is beyond me. Consider this. A fellow classmate of mine who has served one term in Iraq and is fluent in Arabic described to me the difficulty of English to Arabic translation. The Arabic equivalent of "Freedom" does not exist. The closest Arabic words are "lawless" and "anarchy". When telling Iraqi citizens that we are trying to establish "Freedom" in Iraq, they responded to him with fear and anger because they interpret him as saying, "We are trying to establish anarchy in Iraq."
