  1. The news media said they have DNA evidence??? Do they seriously believe the American public is that stupid to believe they have Jesus' DNA stored somewhere to compare it to these bones for a matchup? lol
  2. I was wondering if you thought something was wrong with you because you felt this way? I hope not. There is everything right with you. I am a little older than you and have friends for 20 years who have really begun to bore me. They seem to wallow in their problems and I find they have the same old tired rhetoric. I found myself, like you at dinner with a friend thinking I'd rather be home reading a book or something more productive, like watching law & order re runs (smile). I have stopped calling at least 3 friends recently because they really have nothing to offer me and come to me for advice and support. Other than my boyfriend, I know no other objectivist personally so I rely on achievement types like my running club members and other goal oriented people.
  3. selfish....use spell check on all your documents...dying <--saying this to help you be at your best. I understand. Being an objectivist can be a lonely world. Most of the characters in AR books have few friends and even less acquaintances. Perhaps the best you can hope for is to practice your understanding of OBJ and maybe even teach a few students how to think. Good Luck.
  4. I don't think this is immoral but it may be illegal. If the sorority is on campus and the school has rules about non discrimination for clubs and housing, there may be legal reprecussions. Two things come to mind right away, One, This sorority has the right to choose its members based on any criteria it wants provided there are no university restrictions. I can't imagine why girls who are intellectually inclined would want to stay there at this point and I applaud the 6 remaining girls who left voluntarily once the clubs values did not meet their own. Two, Networking is a major part of getting ahead in business and career. Appearance can open many doors for people, so having good social skills and having the "look" is a smart tool for advancement. I applaud the 6 girls as well, who remained and established a criteria in line with their values . I hope they don't crumble under the negative opinion that's sure to follow.
  5. I like 1. Scrabble 2. Mille Borne 3. Monopoly 4. Name That Tune 5. Hide and Seek (especially at night)
  6. A priest, a rabbi and a duck go into a bar... Who, or can someone even own this premise for a joke?
  7. That post appears to be from just a couple of days ago. Or did I miss something???
  8. Can anyone help me understand the following ? 1. How can an objectivist (THE Objectivist) Ayn Rand have a love affair? (even with permission ) 2. How could AR ever have been married to someone who could "share" her? (how could Frank be of her caliber) 3. How could lesser minds dupe AR ? (Barbara and Branden)
  9. They sell their items , fruit, vegetables, flowers and such at stands near the entrance to the orchard.
  10. You hit it on the money, most low costs foods are sugar and sodium laden. High fiber foods tend to add bulk and create a fuller feeling. I often cook a few meals once a week and re heat so that I can save time and money. Try making chili with beans and veggies like onions and peppers. Some brown rice. There are many whole grain pastas now with high amounts of protein which covers several nutritional needs. Making 2 quiche with a dozen eggs and some veg and cheese lasts all week and its good for breakfast and lunch. A big pot of soup lentil or pea are substantial enough for dinner with a good bread. A bag of apples or oranges are usually affordable. Seasonal foods are generally cheaper. Places like costco are ideal for good prices and bulk purchase. If you don't know how to cook, maybe you can barter with someone who does, for an activity they need help with. Buon Appetit
  11. We are very much in agreement and I buy most of my food at markets like whole food or wild by nature. If i go cycling out east and pass an orchard, I would stop and eat some fruit from them. You don't have to. My running partner is an environmental engineer who does soil and water samples at sites before and after a company uses the land. Certain levels of toxic material is permissabe under the law to go into the Ground water. I know a certain amount of pollution is necessary and normal to have the technology we enjoy today. I don't buy into the environmental scare and global warming crap that is popular today. My boyfriend is an Objectivist and he loves me...
  12. You worry about me spreading germs by not washing my hands 10 times a day, but you don't question some waste dumping practices of certain businesses. I believe in property rights. If that makes me a hippie in your opinion , then it does. Goodnight Inspector.
  13. David, I know some companies put on the words "organic" and don't meet standards and try to pull off low quality product...duh I also eat non organic foods. I look for food that tastes good, has the right color, looks like good quality based on size and texture, etc...but I disagree about local markets. I am not an environmentalist per say, but I don't want a company polluting the water because I have to drink it and its in my best interest that I care. I'm all in favor of technology but I don't really trust most companies. I have to weigh things out. I don't have a canned reply to circumstances. You think I'm some crazy socialist who believes its fair and right for the gov't to stop one region of farmers to profit because lack of rain hindered crop growth in a different region, because i eat organic food ? Here on Long Island many people grow their own, myself included, not because I don't want a company to profit. I want any company who can produce a product the public wants to make as much money as possible. I like the fact that I can save money producing my own handful of veggies and herbs this way, its fun and I can spend my money on something else I want like a new bike or vacation or whatever. I could care less about the farmers making money.
  14. what are the exceptions ? And how do you know I don't fit into the exception? Should I be worried about the tomatos I grow in my own backyard? Am I cutting into the profits of Ragu Inc? I believe in free market !!
  15. Define Hippie food. You must have me confused by your assumptions, with a category that I don't belong in. Mod's note: Created a split-thread on "Organic Food". - sN
  16. I do understand, however, someone picking their butt and eating or serving food is an exaggeration of the scenario. I meant if I wake up, go the gym , shower and go to the mall, I don't feel a need to wash my hands again before i eat a pretzel. If you were in this same scenario, what would you do? (neither one of us is serving anything in our daily lives so don't create a drummed up situation) You sound prejudice against people who eat organic food and arbitrarily call them germ lovers and hippies in a derrogatory way. Remember...the question posed by kufa ? I doubt what I do with chicken in my kitchen is affected by you washing your hands in your house? A strong immune system is the best prevention against germs. ( goggle it and see for yourself)
  17. I said in a normal day most people are not handling raw chicken and adding on, if they do, They COOK it. If I go to the mall and buy a pretzel at the kiosk, I don't wash my hands before i eat it. How am I contaminating the world by that practice or lack of? You act like i am yelling fire in a crowded theatre because i eat a pretzel that way. I don't eat raw chicken but I do eat sushi. If I get sick, I would handle it accordingly. I don't and I haven't. I have confidence it my health level and I am not threatened by my environment. If I were you, <coughhowardhughescough>and I thought eating chicken or eggs at a restaurant were a direct threat to my health, I would stop doing that. Most people if they do get poisioning have flu like symptoms that last about a week, sometimes hardly noticible at all and rarely needing antibiotics. Serious outbreaks are rare. When they occur, the very young, the very old, and those with immune system weaknesses have the most severe and life-threatening cases. Perhaps Anna and Kyle should have taken acidiphilus. I am probably the healthiest person you will ever meet so I don't know why you would say to keep away from you I won't be the person in the cubicle next to you sneezing all over everything, thats for sure. Kufa, I think you're on a good track
  18. The questioned posed at the beginning of this thread was basically, could someone create a strong immune system by not be overly sanitized, and maybe even coming into contact with some "weak" germs? They questioned whether being overly cautious and maintaining such a "clean system" would put them at a disadvantage when contacting a germ ? Your answers inspector, usually more definitive, were casual and more suggestive, leading me to believe that you are not truly convinced either way, other than the organic hippie aspect of lettuce. (prefer cheesy poofs) Any opinion on Salmon... Farm raised vs wild
  19. Show of hands, how many people have to pluck feathers off a chicken they hand picked out of a over crowded feces infested hen house before eating, on a normal day. (silence). The responsibility of creating a healthy immune system is up to the individual. If I owned a business that practiced "sloppy cleanliness habits", I'm sure my business would suffer, if enough people got sick off my product. Why are you lobbying for all the immune deficient people of the world? If you think Hot Dogs sold on the streets of NY aren't sanitary, don't eat them. If you think organic food is worse then processed foods, then don't eat them. I'd rather eat fruits grown with manure then chemicals. I'd rather eat food that isn't bleached first. What about Montezumas <sp>revenge? Do mexicans have diarrhea all the time?
  20. hee hee, i find your answer amusing. My hands go everywhere a normal persons hands would go and it doesn't enter my mind that I could be contaminated by something in my daily environment. Are you really that worried about catching something? It would be ridiculous to say I have just been lucky. I don't get sick. I never don't feel well, I never get run down. I have never taken medication for any symptoms, ever (beside, i don't have any symptoms of anything) I never go to the doctors, I never take aspirin or antibiotics. I do take vitamins. I eat organic food. People who don't want to be sick should spend their medical budget at a health spa instead of on an insurance premium. Doctors probably would recommend washing your hands since they are dealing with sick people in THEIR everyday environment.
  21. I didn't say I never wash my hands. I said I never washed my hands before eating just because i was going to eat, thinking i would be passing germs into my system.
  22. My BF and I are curious and plan to do this system..me limited as i am training for a marathon in march , he can do it for as long as he likes. Q: How do we decide the weight increase if we are using a forward chest press at say 100lbs. Do we increase 40% or 50% etc. Or is it trial and error? Q: what is the warm up recommended?
  23. Women who breast feed their babies, pass along their immunity to germs to their infants . This helps during that early 0-1 year period. My non technical belief is to keep the body strong, healthy and stress free. I do this through diet and exercise. People I know who get sick a lot are generally unhealthy to begin with. They either smoke or eat junk food and never exercise. They are run down, stressed out, always have head aches, and tend to be overwhelmed by life. I nearly never get sick, last flu was 8 years ago when i worked at a medical facility, never get headaches, dont take aspirin or advil if i did get one preferring to drink more water and take a walk. I never washed my hands before a meal ever in my life...I only have a 3 second rule...
  24. I'd like to see Jim Flannahan chase me down the block with all that bulk...lol... ( if he caught me, he'd curl me with one arm). You know, with all these hunky muscle guys on this site how come no one is sending me pictures (smile) Alfa, if i am training for triathlons, there is no way just weight lifting would prepare me for that type of competition.
